NASA: This is how the Moon formed – Simulation (Video)

NASA simulation shows how the Moon can have been formed much faster than it was believed so far: within hours.

Billion years ago, a version of the Earth that was very different from the one we live in today, was hit by an object in the size of Mars, called Aunt.

And from this conflict the Moon was created, NASA notes.

« This opens a completely new range of potential starting points for the development of the Moon, » Jacob Kegereis, a researcher at the NASA Center in Silicon Valley and lead author of the study for these results, published in The Astrophysical Journal, said in 2022.

The simulations used in this research are one of the most detailed detailed, in a higher analysis than any other for the study of the origin of the Moon or other giant conflicts. This has shown that smaller resolution simulations may lose important aspects of this type of conflict.

In addition to finding out more about the Moon, these studies can help us understand how the Earth became the planet that is today, NASA points out.

« The more we learn about how the Moon was created, the more we find out about the evolution of the Earth, » said Vincent Eke, a researcher at Durham University and one of the authors of the research.

« Their story is interconnected and could be repeated in the history of other planets, changed from similar or very different conflicts, » he added.
