N-VA gets completely female party top: Frieda Gijbels and Maaike de Vreese chosen as vice-presidents

The fact that Gijbels (50) and De Vreese (40) would be the new vice -presidents was written in the stars, since they were the only candidates for the functions. Through their election, three women, with chairwoman Valerie Van Peel, get the daily management of the party.

The West Flemish De Vreese worked at the time on the cabinet of then State Secretary Theo Francken. The previous legislature she was in the Flemish Parliament and now in the Chamber. Her themes are asylum, migration and integration. In the past she was already twice in vain candidate vice-chairman. Gijbels – from Limburg – sits in the room for the second legislature in a row. She focuses primarily on health care – that she has a doctorate medical sciences in her pocket is not strange to that.

Louis Ide re -chosen as a party secretary

On Saturday, Louis Ide was also re -elected as a party secretary, a board mandate that he has been holding since 2014. The doctor and medical microbiologist was involved in the cradle of the N-VA and was vice-chairman, senator and European Member of Parliament, until he became a national party secretary in 2014.

In accordance with the party mates, the party council also chose fifteen party board members who do not hold a national mandate and are not a staff member, and where each province has at least one representative. It is about: Geert Bourgeois, Sarah Remacle, Matthias Storme, Guy van der Streeck, Lieve Maes, Paul Cordy, Philip Roosen, Werner Janssen, Magda Debrouwer, Eddy Schelfhout, Ismaeil Ayed, Gunther Coppens, Maud van Hollebeke and De Vestester.

At the next meeting of 14 June, the party council finally prefers a treasurer from its own members. The daily management and the party board of the N-VA will thus be renewed.
