« My time is over »! Elon Musk leaves the Trump administration
Elon Musk is leaving his government role as President Donald Trump’s senior adviser after leading efforts to reduce and reform federal bureaucracy, reports AP.
His departure, notified Wednesday evening, marks the end of a chapter that included thousands of dismissals, the extinguishing of government agencies and a series of lawsuits.
It significantly reduced the target for costs – first from $ 2 trillion to 1 trillion, and then $ 150 billion. Occasionally, he clashed with other Trump administration officials, who considered his attempt to change the structures of their departments.
Musk’s role in the administration was from the beginning of the temporary, and he had recently given signals that he would return to the management of his businesses, such as the manufacturer of Electric Cars Tesla and Spacex Space Company.
However, administration officials had not been clear for the exact moment when Musk would leave the department of government efficiency, known as Doge. He suddenly announced the departure with a post on his social network, X.
« With the expiration of my planned deadline as a special government employee, I want to thank President Trump for the opportunity he gave me to reduce vain expenses, » he wrote. « The Doge mission will be increasingly strengthened, becoming part of the institutional culture throughout the government. »
The announcement comes a day after the CBS published parts of an interview in which Musk criticized the main law of Trump’s agenda, saying he was « disappointed » with what the president called « the great draft law ».
The law involves a combination of tax cuts and strengthening immigration control. Musk called it « mass spending bill », which enhances the federal deficit and « undermines the work » of its department for efficiency.
Trump, speaking from the Oval Office on Wednesday, defended his agenda, emphasizing the delicate policy of legislative negotiations.
« I’m not happy with some parts, but I’m excited with others, » he said, adding that « we will see how it will go – there are still ways ahead. »
The bill passed into the House of Representatives and is being reviewed in the Senate.
Elon Musk’s 130-day mandate as a special government employee in the Trump administration was expected to end around 30 May.
The administration has stated that DOGE’s efforts to restructure and reduce the federal government will continue.
