Muslims in Germany are uncomfortable with the increase in the hostility of Islam – Cyprus Newspaper

In Germany, Muslims are uncomfortable with developments in the hostility of Islam in the country.

According to the report of the Federal Criminal Chamber (BKA), the Federal Criminal Chamber (BKA), announced by German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, reportedly increased by 28 percent compared to 2023 and rose to 21 thousand 733 compared to 2023.

In the report, it was seen that a significant part of this increase constitutes crimes against hostility to Islam.

In Germany in 2024, the hostility of Islam increased by 26.3 percent compared to 2023 and was identified as 1848. In 2024, 79 mosques were attacked; This number was recorded as 70 in 2023.

In 2024, the crimes of xenophobia increased by 29.1 percent compared to the previous year and rose to 19 thousand 481. 74.8 percent of these crimes were committed by extreme rightists.

Burhan Kesici, the President of the German Islamic Council, and the General Secretary of the German Central Council Aladdin Beiersdorf-el Schallah made evaluations to the AA correspondent on increasing Islamic and unfairly in the country.

Kesici emphasized that the violence against Muslims with the hostility of Muslims and Islam has increased in Germany for many years. “We have always expressed this. I really need to do something. People don’t feel comfortable here anymore. Muslims are trying not to go to some regions in the evening.” he said.

Kesici stated that women use them by thinking of public transportation and try not to go alone from one place to another. he said.

Muslim hostility should be taken seriously

The cutter stated that the hostility of Muslims and Islam in Germany is not a new phenomenon, “This has a very long history in Germany. Although we said that the hostility of Muslims has increased since the 2000s, they did not take it very seriously.” evaluated.

Despite the high numbers of Islam and Muslim hostility, the Kesici said that he was tried to be kept small and said that the report prepared and the suggestions in the report were not taken seriously.

Emphasizing that the problems of Muslims were not dealt with, Kesici said, “When Muslims take the floor, the international terror and Gaza issue is put forward. However, they ignore the ordeal and problems that Muslims suffered here, and there was such a thing that did not really speak.” He said.

Kesici pointed out that the Muslims who grew up in Germany do not feel themselves, “Interestingly, even the third and fourth generation here is now thinking of going to Türkiye or Arab countries. They see the future there despite the fact that Turkey and the Arab countries know only from trips or mothers, their fathers.” he said.

In the coalition protocol prepared by the government established between the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Germany, Kesici pointed out that there are not many things for Muslims, “If there is, then it is under the heading of extremism and preventive measures. This is not seen as part of this country.” he said.

Projects against the hostility of Muslims and Islam should be carried out, but the government has cut financial support in this regard, Kesici said that almost all parties in Germany began to use a harsh language against Muslims.

Kesici did not think that the new government was ready to enter dialogue with Muslims and continued:

“If we look at the Ministry of Interior, we have the feeling that both the minister himself and his undersecretaries will go worse than before if we consider what he said in recent years and especially against Muslims.”

Pointing out that the structure of the German government to be in dialogue with Muslim associations, the structure of the German Islamic Conference has changed, the major meetings were held in the past, but this conference was held at a lower level and that the representatives of Muslims did not play an important role or most of them were not invited to the conference.

« Collective accusation of Muslims is worrying »

The General Secretary of the German Central Council Beiersdorf-el Schallah underlined that the increase in Islam and xenophobia in the country is a shocking development and said, “It should be clearly defined what this is; it is a serious attack on our society.” made the evaluation.

Beiersdorf-el Schalleh stated that the increase in crimes against Muslims was worrying, and that this increase stems from the discourse in society and the corruption of media and politics.

Emphasizing that anti-Muslim racism is systematically insignificant or not, Beiersdorf-el Schallah said that the parties competed about who could be more immigrants and anti-Muslims instead of fighting against the anti-Muslim hate in the Federal Assembly.

Beiersdorf-el Schallah said, “It is worrying that the discourse after October 7, 2023 leads to collective accusation of Muslims in Germany.” he said.

Beiersdorf-el Schallah stated that other research revealed that 80 percent of Muslims or people perceived as Muslims are faced with anti-Muslim racism.

Recalling that many Muslims have been discriminated against in the official apartments and streets, Beiersdorf-el Schallah said, “There are many cases where religious practices such as wearing a headscarf or fasting in Ramadan are generally equal.” He transferred his knowledge.

Beiersdorf-el Schallah emphasized that anti-Muslim racism should be accepted as a structural and political problem and should be fought determined by it, “We belong here and should not be asked whether Islam belongs to Germany.” he said.
