Musk’s Starbas in Texas will officially become a city
The area in which the Spacex Elon Musk company operates in the south of the South State Texas will officially become a city named Starbase, BBC reports.
The results published by Cameron County show that 212 people have declared themselves to be against. A billionaire Musk wrote on his social network X: « Starbase in Texas is now a real city! »
Most of the 283 voters are Spacex employees.
The new city covers about 3.9 square kilometers that were sparsely inhabited before Spacex in 2012 began to buy the country there.
The city government will have mayor and two commissioners with the authority of urban planning, taxation and other local issues.
The first mayor of Starbase will be Bobby Peden, Vice President of the SpaceX. Peden was the only one running, and two commissioners have to do with Spacex.
Some nearby inhabitants opposed the decision and accused the company of damaging the local environment.
In recent years, Musk has moved many of its operations and headquarters from California to Texas, saying that it is due to the eligible regulations, as well as its opposition to the California policy dominated by the Democratic Party.
