Music World Standing: Dua Lipa, 400 artists including Sir Elton John launched ‘Copyright War’ – Cyprus Newspaper
In the UK, the leading names of the art world came together and wrote an open letter to the government. More than 400 artists, who argued that some artificial intelligence companies should be banned to use their works without permission, demanded new legal regulations.
The leading names of the UK’s music and art world raised their voices against the use of artificial intelligence without permission. Among them, more than 400 artists, including stars such as Prayer Lipa, Sir Elton John, Sir Ian McKellen, Florence Welch and Paul McCartney, wrote an open letter to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and demanded clear and binding legal arrangements to protect the copyright.
The artists described the artificial intelligence companies’ use of the works as a learning data without permission. The letter warns that the government’s condone to this situation will cause both economic and cultural damage to the creative sector of England.
This call includes the introduction of an additional article to the Draft Law (use and access), which is currently discussed in the UK Parliament. The proposed change necessitates transparently explaining the content used by artificial intelligence developers and obtaining permission from the owners.
This is not the first example of artists to seek their rights against artificial intelligence. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, an increase in the unauthorized use of the images and sounds of celebrities is observed.
