Murderous mystery. The Daile Theater Shows driven their plow over the bones of the dead

It is incredibly that the show, in which five deaths in Shakespeare’s tragedy, four of which are murdered can be so beautiful. I will admit that Nobel and Buker Prize winners Polish writer Olga Tokarchuk’s novel Push your plow over the bones of the dead is my most powerful literary adventure and its main character – the elderly English teacher and the Summer Counter -Countered Little Polish village, Janina Dusheyko, has become the most intriguing hero in the 21st century literature.

Magic

In amazing round, a book of melancholic and metaphysical Olga Tokarchuk in Syrian and Dutch director Egg Mafalani Drive your plow over the bones of the dead The Daile Theater has almost lost anything. Just got mystery features and another layer of metaphorical imagination, awarded to it by internationally working designer German Ermich and costume artist duo Mareunrol’s (Mārīte-Peterskop and Rolands Peterkops) costumes, as well as the transcendental music of Krista Auznieks and Alex Brock.

Coming to the show, most concerned about how the forest will be moved on stage, which has no less meaning in the novel than In a dream on a summer night. German Ermich’s beautiful, gentle barchant scenography is made in a highly stylized, abstracted and beautiful (I realize that for the second time I use this supposedly banal marker). The fringe surrounds the janina room and encloses the forest in the bottom. In the same semicircle, the death of hunters begins to multiply in arithmetic progression and Janina is increasingly passionate about its theory that they are animals that punish hunters are beginning to rain. It rains continuously for almost all of the second acts, sometimes even spilling a microphone. And then for a moment – I won’t tell you, because I really don’t want to spoil – in the same semicircle the fire breaks from the bottom. This is a magical moment in which the action climifts.

Germans Ermich has also expanded the performance of the show on both sides of the stage, on both sides of the first rows of spectators, which is usually « their own », this time there are two kitchen spaces that are busted by Juris Bartkevich’s eacis and come from tempting perfumes, including what the vegetarian Janina would certainly accept.

The flowers of the world

The costumes of the show work in several dimensions of the time: everyday, ordinary reality costumes – the white lace of the main character is paying attention to the socks she manipates during the show – and the dates of parallel reality. They are dressed in flowering dresses and suits, the flowers cover them from head to toe, and all the dead, whatever male they are in their lifetime, become beautiful. The choir of dead girls still has peculiar wire wreaths, moving from a Mareunrol’s collection. Her (and in the record also the State Academic Choir Latvia) Sings almost sacred music by Krista Auznieks, where we also recognize Latvian folk songs.

The dead and at the same time blooming women are not just the director’s whims – her dead mother and a new grandmother with a pre -war bag comes to Janina’s dreams. The mother in the show I saw was portrayed by Lydia Pupure (also Olga Dreģe in this role), and her main task is to emit a mysterious, loving light. The grandmother’s role is singer Beāte Sweden, who hears singing in different styles, genres and languages in the sound voice, it gives an additional metaphysical atmosphere to the already surreal dead and lives in parallel existence.

Along with her mother, there is also a grandmother – a whole child who is tasked with singing a mysterious song in the voice of the child. This role is backed up by Banut Perska and Ruth Blumberg. And there are eight choirs. This enigmatic choir, choreographer Elina Gediņa, was moved, switching to the stage, occasionally walking on the stage, also welcoming the hunters of various crafts to the village.

Being out of age

The center of the show is Chulpana Hamatova Janina Dushayko, and it is touching to see how returned the rest of the ensemble works « around him », creating another actor pearl. Chulpana Hamatova provides a high -profile portrayal, is relentlessly present and extremely charismatic. His show is not artificially aged, though, according to a biography chronology, her heroine is over sixty, so her still girl’s face, along with gray hair, gives the impression that this is a being outside of age and maybe even out of gender.

In this respect the main character in Agnes’s Dutch film Footprints of the beast/spoor (2017) more corresponds to the letter of the novel. However, Chulpana Hamatova fits the spirit of this work – because the main thing in Janina, the shower, which makes him a unique main character, is the original thinking, the soul of the animal world. The novel’s walking through the forest and the footprints of the footsteps of the show in the miraculous world replaces Janina’s own transformations – the actress sneaks her head like a roe deer here, and here’s like a dog. She is not separable from nature. And she is a woman, on the other hand, the cruel, the animals and the hunters of Janina’s dogs are men – all as one of the macho long, oily hair. Such a binary opposition has led Olga Tokarchuk’s novel reviewers to attribute eco -memory to it. For this definition, it is undoubtedly in line with, however, as it is with any brilliant talented work, it does not undergo the essence of the novel.

Fateful men

Speaking of Janina’s gender and men in the novel and show, there are several positive heroes: Arthur Skrastiņa’s sharp dysio, obsessed with XVIII century English poet William Blake (Arthur Skrastiņš is great in this role), Jura Bartkevich’s business and deliciously cooking, so humane. Imanta Strada against insects and a lyrical entomologist Boros lyrically. Janina’s love scene with boros, easy to fly over furniture, is one of the most beautiful love scenes in the theater of recent years (by the way, Boros, Dizio and Kaspar Dumbur pastor, the only men of men are not endowed with long hair). It contains much more romance than this relationship is in the novel, where Janina is quite businesslike with Boros in fact because of his profession and his loneliness.

Janina’s friends also have a humpal salesman, whose main character has been called a good message, with a rare genetic feature – she has no hair. This alien -like creature with alienation and at the same time the alloy of interest is represented by Catherine Griga. Every minor role plays a role in the death and mystery of Janina Dusheyko – Kristin Nevarauska’s broken and desperate president’s wife remains in memory, who only strengthens Janina in her fateful decisions. Arthur Kruzkop, on the other hand, role as a whirlwind of police investigator in the black coat as such a whirlwind, encountering a being more important than human law is the law of nature.

Macho bouquet

And then there is a whole bouquet of macho hunters: they are gradually dying one after another, and they are portrayed by the flower of the Daile Theater. Andris Bulim has also grown into the command of the commandant in addition to the hair jumps, and his shameless, loose removal, to be honest, demands a violent reaction. Mārtiņš Meier’s « thick » interior, whose main task is to become Janina’s next obstacle. Meinards Liepiņa (this role also Lauris Subatnieks) first dead – Malumednieks Great Foot. It is a great pleasure for Girts Kester to return to the theater with the role of a mysterious and stunned president – he is the most sorry for all of all the murdered. And Pastor Chauk – Kaspar Dumbur’s sluggish, as a case printed and blessed by a case, Ksendz, who is destined to die for the last.

Some lines of action have disappeared from the ecotriller (such as the practice of Janina’s teacher and summer cottage visiting), and it has gained other features – a message from being defiled from nature to the story of death inevitably, its mysterious presence and the punishment that follows violence.

If there is a little short, the finale of the novel, the show remains a bit hung in the air. With the peaceful end of her life, the aftertaste of the performances is about the inevitable penalty, which is not what Olga Tokarchuk has wanted to say with the novel, but apparently the goal of the show’s creators.
