This is what the situation looks like after the broadcast of the program “File number XY” – the police receive a number of clues
The unresolved case of Emiliya Emilova was presented on Wednesday in the TV show “Aktenichen XY”. Even before the show and to this day, the police come in. Some confirm what the police already knew, others are completely new.
On Wednesday the time had come and the program “File number XY” was broadcast on SRF 1 and ZDF at the same time. According to the SRF, an average of 301,000 spectators, which corresponds to a market share of 24.9 percent, pursued the program. These are preliminary numbers. How important was the appearance in “Aktenzeichen XY” for the investigation?
We are convinced that it was the right decision. Without the show, we would never have received such a broad public attention. That would have meant that we would not have received many of the new hints. Now we hope that one of them will get us on the right track. But it still takes a lot of work – and also a little luck.
When could one find out more about the state of the investigation?
If there is a specific trace, the police will inform the public prosecutor in due course. In consultation with «File number XY», if there is a hint, there will be an update in the show in three weeks, but only with the consent of the public prosecutor.
Do you have the impression that the case can really be solved?
We felt strong support and see that the information received is promising. There is hope that someone who breaks his silence after ten years. Sometimes social bonds change and people are ready to unpack. It will be crucial whether we will find a trace that can be compared. We definitely don’t give up, because the perpetrator is still free.
And finally a personal question: How was it for you to perform live in the studio of «File number XY» in Munich as criminal chef?
It was a special experience. The range of this program is enormous, especially for us in police work. It was exciting and a great opportunity to get in touch with new people. Cooperation with the German authorities was also excellent. Overall, it was a very valuable experience.
