The tragedy took place on January 15, 2017 at the PKS station in Kalisz. 27-year-old Adrian Sz. He left the house in the morning where he lived with his mother. Eight years, three sentences. The motive of the crime is still unknown
The trial in this case started before the District Court in Kalisz in 2018. Both during the investigation and the time of the court, the motive of the action of Adrian Sz. The man claimed that he did not remember this event and that he regrets what happened.
According to the mother of the accused, her son killed because she is sick. He complained that he was hearing the voices he was afraid of. He disappeared from home for a few hours and did not remember what he was doing at that time. He began to behave abnormally. He said he would study Hebrew, light candles at home – she testified in court.
The first sentence in this case was convicted by Adrian Sz. for 25 years in prison. However, the prosecutor’s office demanded life imprisonment, and the defense requested that the proceedings be discontinued due to the alleged insanity of the accused. The Court of Appeal in Łódź set aside the verdict and ordered the case to be reconsidered again.
During the second, resumed process, Adrian Sz. He was examined by two independent teams of expert doctors of various specialties – psychiatrists, psychologists and neurologists. After the death of the judge, however, it was necessary to designate another chairman of the warehouse and start the wire again.
The District Court in Kalisz, by a judgment of 2022, reduced his penalty to 15 years in prisonconsidering that the accused’s mental disorders and his current criminal record are soothing circumstances. The prosecutor’s office, which demanded life imprisonment at the time, appealed again, which led to another decision in April 2025.

The Court of Appeal in Łódź in April 2025 changed the judgment of the Kalisz court, increasing the penalty for Adrian Sz. from 15 years to 25 years in prison. The judgment is final, but the prosecutor’s office does not give up.
– The prosecutor requested that the judgment be justified to consider the cassation appeal regarding the sentence of life imprisonment – Maciej Meler, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrów Wielkopolski told PAP on Friday, April 25.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Adrian Sz. He acted deliberately, choosing a lonely and defenseless elderly person on the victim. This way of action – thoughtful and planned – according to investigators, deserves the most severe sentence.
