MUCUNUSKI: Hungary is among the 10 biggest trading partners and foreign investors
Promotion of bilateral relations, trade co -operation, as well as the prospects and challenges in the process of our European integration were the focus of talks at the meeting of the foreign ministers of Macedonia and Hungary Timco Mucunski and Peter Siarto, which marked the start of the government's government summit.
– Tomorrow's joint meeting of the governments of Northern Macedonia and Hungary is another important moment to deepen our relations, but also the necessary opportunity for strategic coordination in times of serious political and security challenges. I sincerely believe that this meeting is a great opportunity to exchange opinions and attitudes that will significantly contribute to the promotion of overall bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as to further strengthen European peace, security and prosperity-Mucunski said at a joint news conference.
He expressed gratitude for the continued, friendly, unequivocal and comprehensive support that Hungary gives to Macedonia in the process of accession to the European Union both at the bilateral level and through technical assistance. He particularly emphasized the importance of what he said, unselfish support during Hungary's successful presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2024.
– The Republic of Northern Macedonia is located at a key crossroads in the European integration process. In this regard, we expect continuity in support and understanding of our positions, as well as the concerns caused by the imposed proposal of 2022. For the past 20 years we have made numerous difficult and unusual decisions, hoping to fulfill the dream of joining the European family. After all the difficult concessions on our part and the long -standing promises of the European partners, we are still in the waiting room, and ahead of us is an uncertain path, conditioned by constitutional changes and a number of other bilateral demands imposed by our neighbor, Bulgaria. Regardless of the serious challenges we face, we want to believe that with the maximum utilization of our political and diplomatic capacities, it is realistically feasible for Europe's goal – by 2030 to become an equal member of the common, democratic and prosperous European family – said Mucunski.
For the realization of this goal, he said, the country is obliged to deliver reforms, and the EU has a duty to confirm its long -awaited strategic approach not only to us but also to the entire region.
On this time towards joint success, Mucunski said, Hungary remains our proven and strong partner in NATO, and co -operation and commitments to promote open and sincere communication will continue to develop, especially on the eve of the next NATO Summit in Hague, the Netherlands.
He emphasized that this year is really important for both countries as it is marked 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
– We welcome this jubilee with a strong readiness to open a new chapter in our cooperation. Together, we proudly remind ourselves of three decades of successes and outstanding achievements, noting that Hungary is one of our 10 largest trading partners and one of the ten largest foreign investors in our country. I am strongly convinced that in the years that follow we will maintain the continuity of excellent partner and friendly cooperation, at every level and in all areas of common interest – says Mucunski.
In terms of key geostrategic challenges, and especially the situation in Ukraine, the two countries share the goal of unconditionally and as soon as possible to achieve the desired peace, security and stability in Europe and the world. Mucunski pointed to the two countries' consonsures in the World Organization 2774 resolution.
– In this regard, we remain strongly committed to respecting the UN Charter, as well as the norms and principles of international law. In this sense, along with our Hungarian friends, we were co-sponsors of Resolution 2774 (2025) at the UN General Assembly, which was later adopted by the Security Council. This resolution, among other things, expresses the deep unfortunate of the tragic loss of human lives and recalls that the UN's main purpose is to preserve international peace and security, as well as peaceful resolution of disputes. To overcome the current misunderstandings and the various approaches to the global political scene, we sincerely believe that additional efforts will be made. Through dialogue, mutual respect, sincere commitment and greater unity, we can jointly contribute to the strengthening of transatlantic cooperation, finding appropriate solutions for rapid ceasefire and achieving a sustainable and implemented peace agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation – said Minister Mucunski.
He, along with Minister Siarto, today signed an action plan to exchange expertise between the two EU integration ministries.
Prime Minister Mickoski, headed by a government delegation of the Hungarian-Macedonian government summit in Hungary, will have a tete-a-tete meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban tomorrow. The delegation includes ten ministers and two deputy ministers. Bilateral meetings of the line ministers of the two governments are planned, followed by a joint government session between the two governments. The visit will end with a joint press conference of Prime Ministers Mickoski and Orban.
