MSB in a grand meeting after attacks against, among others, SVT, Parliament and the Employment Service
Sweden’s Television was hit by extensive overload attacks on Sunday and Monday, which affected the app, SVT Play and the news site. An operational disorder also occurred on Tuesday, but it is said to have been due to a handling error.
On Tuesday, the sites of the Riksdag and the Employment Service were also not reached. Whether it is due to overloads or other technical problems is still unknown.
– We are investigating what the disruptions are due to, says Nina Lärdinge at the Employment Service’s press service.
The site stopped working At 09:45 in the morning, but could be reached again after about an hour. Some telephone functions remained down later in the morning.
The Riksdag confirms that their website has also been down earlier in the morning and that there is a troubleshooting.
It is not long since other important Swedish players were affected by overload attacks. Among other things, Swish and BankID have been drawn with problems lately, which have been attributed to overloads.
The Swedish Agency for Social Protection and Emergency Preparedness, MSB, has, due to the disturbances, called for a so -called collaboration without Tuesday. It is a grand meeting between selected authorities to share information. Among other things, Säpo, Svenska Kraftnät, the police, the Swedish Armed Forces and the Post and Telecom Agency participated. But MSB does not investigate who may be behind an attack or if there are links between different attacks, as other authorities are responsible for it.
« It’s about getting a situation picture, » says Elin Bohman, press secretary at MSB.
An overload attack, too Called DDOS attack, is when a large number of computers at the same time overfire a website or other server with calls until its capacity is not enough and it stops working.
Lina Hallmer, Head of Technology at Bonnier News, has previously confirmed Similar attacks, including a this week about struck Expressen’s site.
– It is one of the most common types of attacks and is performed against all major sites at regular intervals. Often it is not noticeable because we build such strong sites that capture these traffic peaks. But sometimes traffic becomes too big or the attackers find new ways to do it, Lina Hallmer told DN recently.
