MPs return to Parliament after a break for local elections
After completing local elections, attended by about a hundred MPs, or two -thirds, MPs return to the parliament on Tuesday, in which they will spend the next month and a half, until mid -July and the constitutional summer break.
This week, the Croatian Parliament will discuss seven points, including an annual defense report for 2024, which they open a work week.
At the beginning of 2025, Croatia reached a two percent of the defense GDP guidance and retained a previously reached guideline of allocations of at least 20 percent for modernization and equipping, which reaches 29.9 percent in 2025.
The further increase in defense with an emphasis on the strengthening and development of missing defense capabilities, both at the national and NATO level and EU, was influenced by the current geopolitical situation, the continuation of the Russian aggression on Ukraine and the conflicts in the Middle East.
This is stated in the report, a document that enables MPs and the public to see the activities of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Croatia and the Croatian Army, which represents the mechanism of democratic control over the defense line.
It contains a representation of key activities, the development of defense capabilities, the structure of defense resources and key development projects of the Ministry and Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia.
The dedication of Croatia is also emphasized to contribute to international security and stability, participating in international missions, NATO operations and activities, EU and UN, which was confirmed at the end of 2024 when Parliament made 12 decisions to participate in Croatian soldiers in missions and operations abroad in 2025 and 2026.
It is alleged that the equipment and modernization of all branches of the Croatian Armed Forces, including the introduction of all 12 Rafale in operational use by 2026, the purchase of an additional eight multi-purpose Black Hawk helicopter by 2028, the modernization and upgrade of the FPS-117 radar system, as well as the purchase of six idle systems of Bayraktar.
It is also emphasized that modernization and bringing in the operational state of 62 of a total of 89 infantry fighters Bradley, the modernization of the Patria fighter armored vehicles, etc.
The Croatian Parliament will discuss and renovate this week from earthquakes in Zagreb, in Banovina and in Karlovac, Zagreb and Krapina-Zagorje County.
MPs will also discuss proposals to declare a Croatian flag on June 5, and this year of the year of pharmacy in Croatia.
