MPs in Hungary have driven out oppositionists who protested against the prohibition of Pride
The Hungarian Parliament voted on Monday for the temporary removal of six opposition deputies from the building and reducing their salaries after they used smoke missiles during a protest in the plenary against a law banning gay parades from LGBT+ communities.
This is the first time MPs have been banned from entering the parliament hall since the beginning of the transition in 1990, parliament said.
The legislative body, dominated by the Nationalist, Social Conscious Party of Prime Minister Victor Orban, approved the ban on gay parades on March 18, which caused protests.

On the day of the vote, the independent MP Acosh Hadhazi and two of the small Memetum party lit smoke rockets. Three other Methum MPs also scattered manipulated photos depicting Orban and Russian President Vladimir Putin to kiss as the vote progressed.
Protesters have released Russia’s national anthem into a gesture aimed at emphasizing parallels between Orban’s measures against sexual minorities and those adopted by the Putin government.
On Monday, parliament approved a decision by President Laszlo Coaver, a member of Fidesz, to ban the deputies holding the smokes to be admitted to work for 12 parliamentary working days and to take their six -month salary. The other three members will not be allowed to work for six days and will be deprived of salary for four months.
Parliament will sit for another 11 days from its spring session before the summer vacation, which means that three of the deputies will not be able to take their seats again until the fall.
The three members who held the smokes organized a « provocative, antisocial protest that posed a health risk and on the emergence of a fire, according to the text of the resolutions of the Parliament’s website. The impediment of a parliamentary meeting is « one of the most serious disciplinary violations » is added to it.
Both six MPs have filed a petition to the Parliamentary Committee on Immunity, requesting the annulment of their sentence, which is said to be that the chairman’s decision is deprived of both factual and legal justification.
