MP Riigikogu Peeter Ernits joined the Center Party
The recently began work of the deputy of the riegikogu, Peeter Ernits decided to join the Center Party, writes Rus.delfi.
The famous politician was in the ranks of the Estonian Conservative People’s Party (EKRA) until the summer of 2024. Then he entered the party of Estonian nationalists and conservatives, which he left in December 2024.
Ernits received the mandate of a parliamentary deputy due to the fact that Kert Kingo (Ekre) left Riigikogu (in connection with a conviction in the criminal case).
Paeter Ernits had previously been a member of the Center Party for some time – from 2015 to 2018. He entered the Center Party when its leader was Edgar Savisaar.
“I want to contribute to that at least two years later the government will come to power, which will defend the welfare of Estonian people, the interests of domestic entrepreneurship, energy security and regional policy,” Ernits said. “The current Center Party has the will and the ability to propose an alternative to the rule of the Party of Reforms and its satellites.”
According to Ernits, over the past year and a half, the Center Party has strengthened its conservative views.
“Together with Yuri Ratas, unprincipled and unprecedented speeches have left the party,” said Ernits. “I feel that in an updated Center Party I can really participate in work – primarily in the field of rural life and environmental policy that are close to my heart.”
Party Chairman Mikhail Kylvart noted that Ernits is an experienced politician who will make the composition of the riegikoga stronger. “In the environmental issues and issues of the rural life of Ernits, undoubtedly, one of the most competent politicians in Estonia,” the leader of the centrists said.
Ernits added that over time his worldview changed little. He also said that, although he is not very familiar with the current representatives of the Center Party, the party has competent people in various directions.
