Movie of fighting girls shocks school, but also bystanders tapped: « You can’t just start filming » (Wetteren)

The video shows how two girls are fighting on the floor. They hand over, and the girl on the floor is pulled on the hair. Next to the filming person there is another girl watching. The Political Party Vlaams Belang put the video on its Facebook page.

The fight is said to have taken place on Tuesday afternoon, at the primary school playground. « We are investigating the incident, » says Student Begeleurer Yannis Cordier. « But of course we see only a part of what happened. The reason is not visible, but students don’t just start to hit each other. Sometimes there is a history that in many cases has nothing to do with the school. »

Suspended for the time being

The two students involved were noticed yesterday by another student counselor. Tensions would have been felt then. « My colleague has urged the students to keep the peace, » says Cordier. « And she asked them to leave the school. »

The two girls, aged 14 and 15, have been suspended for the time being. The parents of the two have since been received by the school. The school also had a conversation with the parents of the bystanders. « You can’t just start filming, even if it’s a nice incident. We reject any form of violence, and we are just as worried about anyone who welcomes and spreads violence. »

Sint-Jozef regrets the tenor that Vlaams Belang gives in the video. « Here too, the meaningless violence of multiculture strikes, » the party writes on her Facebook page. « We are not going into hateful or racist comments, » says Cordier. “Some people already responded with: Outside!but throwing someone from school is not always a solution for that situation. « 

The two students were sent home to allow the minds to calm. A conversation was held with the classmates. “We look at what sanctions we are going to take, because we want a safe school for all students. But we also go recovery -oriented Taking actions from which the people involved can learn something. « 

Complaint to the police

Possible image damage does not fear the school. « We have to put that into perspective. 548 of the 550 students had a nice school day yesterday. The situation is not as black and white as this video can show. We condemn violence, but schools that say there is no violence there, lying. »

All those involved, including bystanders, have since been interrogated by the police. The person who filmed the incident is detected. One of the fighting girls filed a complaint.
