Motorcyclist dies after he loses balance and ends up under van (Diksmuide)
A motorcyclist died on Friday afternoon after a traffic accident in Sint-Jacobs-Kapelle near Diksmuide. The man drove past the IJzer when he suddenly lost his balance and was dragged a few meters under a van. The man initially turned out to be conscious, but still died of his injuries.
The accident happened on Friday afternoon around 1.45 pm on the IJzerdijk in the village of Sint-Jacobs-Kapelle. Not far from provincial domain IJzerbegaard things went wrong in a bend. « A man drove his motorcycle along the IJzer, in the direction of Diksmuide, » says the polder police zone.
« At a certain moment the motorcyclist hears that a van behind him is driving and he is moving to the right to let the van. The moment the delivery van comes to him, the motorcyclist is struggling, he loses his balance, tilts against the vehicle and is dragged a dozen meters with the rear wheel of the delivery truck. »

CPR attempts
A fisherman and someone from the white-yellow cross who happened to pass by, the first worries had to be done. They notified the emergency services, after which an ambulance was quickly on site with the police. From the AZ West in Veurne, a mosquito also arrived. The man initially turned out to be conscious. « They still spoke to him, but as they talked to him, he lost consciousness. Despite resuscitation attempts, he died. »
The Diksmuide fire brigade arrived on site to place a tent and thus shield the view. Due to the accident there was a long time of traffic nuisance and cars had to turn around. A traffic expert from the public prosecutor comes on site. (DME)
