Motor Show weighs on sales second -hand cars

The sale of second -hand cars fell slightly in February. According to Traxio, the mobility organization that represents, among other things, car repairers and sellers, that has to do with the Motor Show that took place in January.
« In fact, in this new year we see a game of communicating vessels: in February the second-hand market dropped a bit because a number of consumers have opted to purchase a new car, thanks to the salon actions, » says Traxio spokesperson Filip Rylant in a press release on Wednesday.

60,047 second -hand cars were registered in February, 0.5 percent less than in the same month last year. Compared to the February months of 2022 and 2023, there was an increase: « We therefore notice a positive trend in the longer term ».
In addition to the Motor Show, other factors played a role, says Traxio. A strike at Bpost had consequences for the requests and deliveries of number plates, and in some inspection centers there is a long waiting time.

Cars with a gasoline engine remain the most popular on the second -hand market. They are good for more than half of the market. Diesel represents more than a quarter and hybrid and electric cars have a market share of 16.6 percent.
