Most of the US Institute of Peace employees were fired via email
Most of the US Institute of Peace’s staff, a think tank created by Congress and driven by the government’s efficiency department, led by Ilon Musk, received emails for their mass layoffs, world agencies said.
The messages, sent to personal email, as most employees have already lost access to the office system, began arriving on Monday night, according to sources familiar with the issue, who wanted to remain anonymous for fear of penalties.
A former senior institute official said several human resources employees and several employees abroad who had until April 9 to return to the United States were spared layoffs. In total, about 300 people work at the Institute.
Others who remain in the workplace have so far been regional vice -presidents who will work with staff in the relevant zones for his return to the United States, said an employee who received an email was fired.
White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said via email that the Institute « failed to bring peace » and that Trump « realizes his mandate to eliminate the increased administration and save taxpayers. »
