Most of the Dipfaces in Runet are associated with politics and state security

The vast majority of dipfaces spreading in the Russian-speaking environment are related to politics and state security, the Association of Global Fact-Checking Network (GFCN; established in December TASS, as well as cooperating with the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation and the ANO “New Media Workshop”). As experts found out, the favorite characters of manufacturers of such content are the heads of Russian regions, and the most commonly affected topic is a special operation and everything that is connected with it.

According to GFCN (Kommersant has), the number of diplomas detected in three months of 2025 in the Russian information field exceeded 65% of their total number in 2024. In absolute terms (61, a unique dipper and 2.3 thousand copies) is 2.6 times more than for the entire 2023 years. The first noticeable surge of such content was observed in August 2024, but, what exactly it was connected with, analysts do not specify.

Dipfake is a technology for the synthesis of content based on machine training and artificial intelligence. It allows you to apply content fragments on the original image, replacing the face and voice with a video or sound path. The State Duma is preparing for the first reading a bill, which is proposed to recognize the use of dipfaces with a burdening circumstance in fraud and slander (see “Kommersant” dated September 17, 2024).

Despite the prevalence of the phenomenon, the awareness of Russians about it does not exceed 50%, he showed a survey of ANO “Dialogue Regions” (carried out from February 25 to February 27 by Riversampling, when the participants are not taken from the base, but are specifically attracted to this survey; online breakdown-3.6 thousand respondents). But even of these 50%, only 73% were able to correctly determine the concept of “dipfake”, that is, the share of really aware respondents was only 36%.

Over half of them (53%) consider the distribution of dipfaces a dangerous trend.

The main reasons for fear are the likely use of technology in fraudulent schemes and other unlawful actions, as well as for manipulative influence on public opinion.

About 43% of the respondents are also sure that dipfaces pose a threat to « gullible and poorly educated citizens who do not have critical thinking skills. » Against this background, 54% of respondents support the idea of the “legislative regulation of dipfaces”, the survey evaluate.

Most Russian -speaking dipfaces (89%) in 2025 were associated with the political sphere, power structures or state security, analysts calculated. The heads of Russian regions were the most used figures in the diphs. So, one of the most “covered cases” (about 240 thousand views) was a fake video message from the Kemerovo governor Ilya Seredyuk, who allegedly asked for forgiveness from “friends from Gorlovka” (a city in the DPR, which Kuzbass provides for their chef) and said that the region will now help the Lugansk People’s Republic.

Another popular Russian-speaking dipteum (more than 200 thousand views) was the false statement of the ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleg Tsarev, who allegedly opposed the admission of Americans to strategically important resources of Russia.  » In general, the topics close to it are one of the most favorite niches for the manufacturers of dipfaces, according to GFCN data. Among the most noticeable “fake projects”, analysts identified promotions such as “the burden of heroes”, “once a year and the folder shoots” and others.

In the successful penetration of diplomics, “the fashion that defeated in it for the so -called new sincerity”, which gave rise to “non -standard” behavior of large politicians, is to blame for the successful penetration of the politics, the political strategist and sociologist Petr Mercurov said. If 30 years ago, in the era of the “big style”, someone would make an extravagant video with the president of a large country, it would not have caused any trust, the expert explains: “And now politicians often behave more absurd and funnier than the most daring assumptions.” Therefore, as long as the “new sincerity” remains in fashion, the technology of dipfaces has a great future, Mr. Miloserov is sure.
