Mosgortrans announced a tender for the supply of 700 electric buses
The structures of the Moscow government announced a tender for the supply of 700 electric buses and their maintenance for 15 years. We are talking about 85-seater cars on a pneumatic suspension that can completely charge the battery in an hour. Electric buses are required to supply the city in batches in 25–35 pieces until the end of 2027. In the capital’s department of transport, Kommersant was told that the batteries will be made locally for them and plan to replace almost the entire public transport park in Moscow in ten years.
The competition for the supply of 700 “large -class city electric buses” was announced by the capital’s State Unitary Enterprise “Mosgortrans” (follows from the public procurement website). We are talking about the delivery of 85-seater three-door M3 class machines with a pneumatic suspension and batteries capacity of 240 kWh. From the tender documentation it follows that the electric buses should be able to charge in the usual mode in 335 minutes, and at the ultra -construction charging – in an hour and less, and “from scratch”. The technique should be delivered in batches of 25–35 pieces, the first of them should come until February 2026, the latter – until the end of 2027. The cost of the contract is 52.9 billion rubles.
The first electric buses in Moscow appeared in 2018. According to the capital’s department of transport, now 2.35 thousand cars run in the city (mainly KAMAZ-6282 and LIAZ-6274; Each for 85 seats) along 200 routes (in total, Mosgortrans serves more than 700 routes). Every day, electric buses transport about 900 thousand passengers, the city hall said. In Moscow, 360 ultrabro -fast stations are mounted for them.
Moscow previously purchased electric buses under 15-year life cycle contracts (involves the purchase of equipment and its service during the service life) at a price of 30 million to 56 million rubles. apiece. The largest was the supply of 1.2 thousand electric buses in 2023, bought by the city from the GAZ and KAMAZ group (see “Kommersant” dated March 10, 2023). The metropolitan city hall previously explained that these were cars with an increased 35% (up to 80–90 km) margins, adaptive lighting and electric heater in the cabin. From the public procurement website it follows that the last time the contract for the supply of 400 electric buses and their 15-year service for 29 billion rubles. It was concluded by Mosgortrans with KamAZ in February this year.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin in April 2025 announced the current purchase, saying that the city plans to purchase « about 650 electric buses. » He mentioned that the model is “preparing” for serial production with an even more increased march margin “developed by our order”. He did not call the manufacturer of the model. The city hall added that she would have unmanned functions, in particular, the possibility of automatic setting for charging and “active security systems”.
In the metropolitan department of transport, they told Kommersant that traction batteries for purchased electric buses will be produced at the Moscow plant in Krasnaya Pakhra.
In September 2023, it became known about the construction of a Raner company on this site of the Raner factory for the production of batteries with a capacity of 4 GW • h per year (50 thousand batteries). GUP Mosgortrans will purchase more than 155 thousand traction batteries for Moskvich electric buses and electric vehicles there under a contract with Raner. “Localization of production will accelerate the transition of the capital to electric vehicles,” the depotrans believes. According to the Vice-mayor of Moscow Maxim Liksutov, by 2035 the “almost all” Mosgortrans park will consist of electric buses. The department added that this is a low-floor comfortable transport with charges for phones, climate control systems and a air curtain that triggers when opening doors.
The current tender will be interesting to Russian manufacturers, but no one except the GAZ and KAMAZ group will “pull part in it,” says Dmitry Baban from SBS Consulting. Kamaz has already confirmed “Kommersant” plans to participate in the competition-with the new model of the KAMAZ-52222 electric bus (with the Russian battery with a capacity of 230 kW ombs, which, according to the manufacturer, provides a move of 100 km). The company said that they plan to put this model to Mosgortrans as part of the above -mentioned tender for 400 electric buses.
“It is important for passengers to quickly get from point A to point B, the electric bus successfully solves such a problem,” says Ilya Zotov, head of the all -Russian association of passengers, noting the silence of their movement, which “is extremely important in the morning and evening hours.” “Due to the increase in the power of the batteries, the routes become more extended, and passengers do not notice any negative moments with the transition to electric buses,” he believes.
