More than half of the controlled market vendors (57.2 percent) violate at least one legal obligation. This is evident from the results of a study by the Economic Inspectorate of the Federal Public Service Economy.

Especially with a clear price indication, the obligation to offer an electronic payment method and the labels on pots honey sometimes go wrong.

The inspectors investigated the basic legislation between April and December 2024 or market vendors, such as a correct price designation and registration at the Kruispuntbank of Enterprises (KBO). A total of 292 traders were checked and 448 infringements were established.

A written price was missing at a quarter of the market vendors or it was not clearly indicated. With an equally large group you could not pay electronically or you did not see which electronic payment methods you could pay with. Of the controlled traders, 110 were found to have a website or profile on social media. Slightly less than half had no business number on that website or social media profiles.

The economic inspection paid particular attention to the labels on pre -packaged honey. The results of the checks showed that the information on the honey pots was incomplete or even incorrect in almost a third of the cases. For example, it was about the name, origin and the net amount.

The FPS Economy chose prevention over punishment and eventually gave 144 warnings. Only the market vendors with the heaviest violations received an official report (25). Five of them came after non-regularization.
