More than 800 high school students in Zagreb donated blood

More than 800 high school students in Zagreb donated blood

On the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, a commemorative ceremony was held at which the thanks received 817 high school students from Zagreb who donated blood for the first time this year. Under the « on the side of humanity », 28 Zagreb high schools participated in the blood donation action during this school year, and a total of 1,110 doses of blood were collected, 8,17 donated students for the first time.

« With your blood donation, you showed maturity and social responsibility. Thank you for showing that empathy and humanity are not just concepts from the textbook, but the actual elections of young people, » said the high school students of the City Office for Social Protection and Health Lora Vidović, an envoy of the Zagreb Mayor, at the commemorative ceremony organized by the Zagreb Red Cross.

Thanksgiving, along with Vidovic, was presented to the students by the President of the Croatian Red Cross, Zeljko Grubisic, the Executive President of HCK Robert Markt, the president of the Zagreb Red Cross, Hrvoje Pezo, the director of the Transfusion Medicine Institute Irena Jukic and the Director of the Zagreb Red Cross, Ivica Golubic.

The Red Cross also awarded Professor Ankica Vukelic with special thank -you notes, who has been running blood donation for 33 years at the School of Nurses Vrapče, and Maja Krajcar from the Police School, who does so for over 15 years, said in a statement.

In the Republic of Croatia, about 800 doses of blood are required daily. Persons can donate blood from 18 to 65 years, body weight above 55 pounds, who do not use chronic drugs and are good health.

As part of the Red Cross Week, from May 9 to 11, a humanitarian soccer tournament is held at the Ivan Cankara Elementary School, and all the revenue goes to the Krijesnica Association for Assistance to Children with Malignant Diseases and their families. Organizers invite citizens to join the tournament and jointly support humanity through sports and fellowship.
