More than 20% of Europeans employees worked over the weekend in 2023

More than 20% of citizens employed in the European Union (EU) worked during the weekend in 2023. Data released Thursday by Eurostat reveal that the percentage was higher in the sectors of agriculture and fishing.

According to the information provided by the European Union Statistics Service, by 2023, 22.4% of the population employed usually worked during the weekend.

In the sectors of agriculture, forestry and fishing the prevalence of work during the weekend was 49.5%, and in services and retail of 48.5%.

Of the total people who worked at the EU on weekends, 19.2% were workers due to others, while 46.7% of their own workers with employees worked during their usual rest days.

Already 37.8% of workers on their own without employees of charge also made the weekends working days.

Greece is the country of the European Union with the largest percentage of workers during the weekend 32.3%, followed by Italy (30.9%) and Cyprus (26.4%).

On the other hand, in Lithuania only 3%of employed citizens worked during the weekends, followed by Poland (4.5%) and Hungary (6.6%).
