More than 100 organizations sent a letter to European institutions due to the arrest of Novi Sad activists: « Representation regime and human rights violations must stop » – society

According to the announcement of the svice organization, the conversation was obtained « by abuse of security services, without the possibility of a fair defense ».

Other activists who were present at the eavesdropmed meeting are not in the country.

« Due to statements of political officials and threats they receive, fear what they are waiting for them in the state, and the apartments of their parents were searched in the past period, » they said.

As they stand out from the organization, the repression occurs at the time of civil and student protests, which followed the fall of the canopy on the railway page in Novi Sad, which is why 16 people were killed, and one was injured.

More than 100 organizations, activist groups and parties sent a letter to the Commissioner of the European Commission Marti KOS, Enlargement Commissioner, Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O’Flaherty, Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, then Nj. E. Emanuelu Žiofreu (EU Delegation in Serbia), the European Court of Human Rights, the European Ombudsman and the European Parliament for Emergency Human Rights with the request for urgently responding and put pressure in Serbia in order to:

– Detained activists were enabled to defend themselves from freedom, because « their arrest is politically motivated. »

– An impartial trial is made possible by all suspects, in accordance with the basic principles of the rule of law.

– « Ceased abuse of judicial and security institutions for political calculations », which is contrary to the democratic values ​​to which the EU weighs.

This letter was preceded by the meeting of individual representatives of the Novi Sad Opposition and activist groups with the Commissioner of Marta Kos Previous week in Ljubljana after an open panel that was held in the European house.

At the meeting, the Commissioner was presented at the current situation with arrested students, activists and professors, and it was agreed that activists, opposition and non-governmental organizations from Serbia would address European institutions with the call for the reaction.

The letter lists three issues for the competent authorities in Serbia, and that is that the recording is obtained, ie « whether he has been tapped by political opponents of the regime. Then, who submitted a recording and in order to be aware of this case. »

The letter also states that the « coordinated broadcasting of audio-recording on regime televisions clearly shows that the goal was to be a political discredit and intimidation of rebellious citizens, not the implementation of impartial investigation. »

The third issue refers to just a trial, more precisely « why suspects are not entitled to a fair trial, as defenders of suspects only two weeks after the detention measure received insight into evidence ».

According to the statement, « without insight in evidence, the defenders were not able to prepare defense defendants, which is another indication that it is a political rather than just trial. »

In the letter that organizations, they refer to European institutions, other examples that indicate repression of government in Serbia over activists, civil society members and opposition representatives.

They also emphasize violating European standards and reform processes within the accession of Serbia to the European Union.

« Meeting political criteria and conditions in these areas cannot be successfully assessed and positively assessed, as long as possible, detention and attacks on physically and mental integrity of activists and media targeting and intimidation », states in the statement of organizations.

Organizations claim to be rough human rights violations.
