More sustainable an opposition government than Albin Kurti with Bail Appendix
There is a real possibility that the Self -Determination Movement manages to form the new government, but it will not be more stable than until April next year, when the president of Kosovo is elected, says in a written interview with Radio Free Europe, Donika Emini of the Advisory Group in Europe for Balkan politics.
The same fate, according to her, may have the executive that could eventually be formed by the current opposition parties.
« Then it will be determined whether the new political crisis, with an assembly that fails to elect the president, will deepen and force the call of new elections, » Emini says.
However, she sees the premature parliamentary elections possible even earlier.
On April 15, the new composition of the Assembly of Kosovo will be gathered, during which MPs will take the oath. In the agenda, at the constituent session of the ninth legislature, is the election of the President and Vice -Presidents of the Assembly of Kosovo. The constitution of the Assembly will pave the way for the election of the new Government of Kosovo. The winning party of the February 9 elections, the Self -Determination Movement of the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, is the first to have the right to attempt to form the new executive. However, Kurti has not yet secured the 61 votes needed to form the government.
The two major opposition parties, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo, according to Donika Emini, have given signs that they can block the election of the Speaker of Parliament, which should come from the Vetevendosje Movement, which would pave the way for the full constitution of this institution and the formation of the new government.
Emini points out that the current situation is « a testing moment for the political class – a test to show if he is ready to manage the responsibilities and in the country’s interest ».
Kosovo, according to her, needs a legitimate government, which should resolve its continuous isolation from the EU, address the EU punitive measures, which are in 2023-after increasing tensions in the north of the country-and committed to removing them.
In relation to the dialogue and the issue of the process of forming the Association of Serb Majority Municipalities, Emini estimates that a government formed by the opposition could give more results than by the Vetevendosje Movement writes REL.
