Monkey Measles in Macedonia – Epidemiologist Danilovski says they are not easily transmitted and the risk of epidemic
Two cases of MonkeyPox – monkey measles were confirmed in the country yesterday. After confirming the cases, epidemiologist Dragan Danilovski clarifies what the disease is, stressing that it is not easily transmitted and that the risk of the epidemic is very low.
-Majmoon measles are a viral disease caused by the MonkeyPox virus, which belongs to the same family as the Variola Vera virus. Symptoms usually include fever, headache, muscle and back pain, enlarged lymph glands, exhaustion, skin rash that can occur on the face, hands, feet, genital area or other parts of the body, incubation period of 6 to 13 days, but can vary from 21 to 21 days. The disease lasts from 2 to 4 weeks and in most cases recedes without the need for specific treatment. However, in people with weakened immunity, children and pregnant women, more serious complications can develop- Danilovski writes on his Facebook profile.
The disease is transmitted by direct contact with skin lesions or bodily fluids of the infected person, close physical contact, including sexual intercourse, contact with contaminated items such as clothing, bedding or accessories, respiratory drops at prolonged close contact face to face.
– It is important that it is not easily transmitted. A close, extended contact is needed- says Dr. Danilovski.
According to him, the risk of an epidemic is very low. Citizens should maintain hygiene (wash hands with soap and water), avoid close contact with symptomatic persons and sharing personal belongings and consult a doctor. He emphasizes that monkey measles are not a new or uncontrolled threat. The situation, he says, requires information and caution, but not panic.
