Mold at the hospital laboratory
Mold was found at the Akureyri Hospital Laboratory last week and now needs to be moved secondly.
This is stated by Hildigunnur Svavarsdóttir, CEO of the Akureyri Hospital, in a conversation with mbl.is.
She says that this winter there was a suspicion that there was mold in the living room. Initial studies indicated that the mold was demarcated, but last week it was found that the scope was much more than initially anticipated.
The mold was found on the floor of the laboratory, but it was originally believed to be in the walls.
Great challenge for the hospital
Hildigunnur says that this is a major challenge for the hospital, but that it will continue to try to continue the operation without much disruption. The laboratory will be moved to another space within the walls of the hospital.
« The laboratory plays such an important role so we have to have this within the hospital, but it costs a natural transfer of something else. That’s what we are now working hard to. It will be clarified in the coming days, » says Hildigunnur.
The laboratory needs to be evacuated, but work is now underway to delimit the mold area.
