« Miracle Gindoa »: Science of Rading Sea in South Korea, Spectacle attracting thousands of visitors – Life
The occurrence known as the « Miracle Sea Road Festival » is a fascinating natural phenomenon that happens several times a year at the island of Jindo (Jindo) in South Korea.
What’s « Miracle Gindoa »? It is a natural tidal phenomena, when it opens a narrow sand path in a few hours, about 2.8 kilometers long and width up to 40 meters, which connects the island of Jindo with a smaller nearby island of Modo. In that period, the sea is literally pulled and thousands of people can walk between two islands – something like a famous biblical « Sea Separation ».
This phenomenon lasts 30 to 60 minutes and happens two to three times a year, most often between February and June, during a special tidal cycle (low-axis).
Why is that happening?
The phenomenon is the result of extremely low-axis due to combination of a lunar cycle, geographical position and sea currents. Although it looks like a « miracle », it is completely natural.
From « Wonders » to Science: What does the Sea Separation Really cause?
This event was first attracted by the world public in 1975. year, thanks to the French Ambassador in South Korea, Pierre Landi, who described the phenomenon as a « Korean version of Moses’ Miracles », alluding to the biblical separation of the Red Sea.
However, despite the romantic names and legends, science offers a very rational explanation: the phenomenon occurs due to extremely low-axis, caused by appearance known as tidal accordions.
Namely, the gravity influence of the month and suns on the surface of the ocean causes changes in sea level – high and low tides. But, in addition to their position, additional factors such as the country’s rotation, the distance of heavenly bodies and other rhythmic patterns, together affect the appearance of extremely low tenses that « reveal » this path.
According to Professor Geonauka from the University of Texas in Austin, Kevan Mofet, it is a question of several different « harmonious » factors. « Just like more drummer plays almost the same rhythm – at one point everyone hits the same clock and creates a strong ‘impact’, » she states.
In the case of jindo, the sea is actually not separated, but retreats, revealing the underwater ridge wide from 40 to 60 meters. Mophet believes that sediment is probably precipitated at that place due to specific sea currents between two islands.
As long as the shape of the island and the seafarse, which regulates the level of the tide, this phenomenon will, how to stand out, will most likely continue to occur every year.
However, the legend is remembered most … and one tiger, writes National Geographic.
Legend of « Miru Must »
According to tradition, the Tiger once attacked the village on Jindou long ago, so the inhabitants were saved by fleeing on the island of Modo. In Chaos, one old woman named Bjione remained alone on the island. For days, she prayed to God, Jongwang, who addressed her dream, and said the sea the sea the « long » will be able to join the family. When she went out ashore, the water really dragged, and a path in the form of a rainbow pointed to her. Her family then approached her on the other side, and since then the belief and the custom was created today.
Festival
The event became famous worldwide Thanks to the French Ambassador Pierre Randi, which was 1975. He wrote about him in the press, calling him « Korean Miracy Moses ». Today, tens of thousands of tourists gather during the festival, and the local community organizes cultural performance, traditional music, costumes and marine walks with tires and boots.
