Ministry motivates employees with private insurance: what awaits after 2025?

You will usually have to pay a lot of money to get to a private clinic for a private clinic. However, some employers give such cases a privilege – private health insurance.

Such a privilege is common in the private sector, but in the public, especially in ministries – where the money from the state budget is much less common. However, 6 out of 14 ministries buy additional insurance to their employees.

« It was bought in our ministry from the savings saved, which means that we have pressed in other areas and bought insurance, » said Povilas Poderskis, Minister of Environment.

The Ministry of the Environment costs almost 140 thousand annually. The Ministry of Economics and Innovation costs about 120,000 a year.

« The cost of this measure is attractive to encourage employees and they have to admit, really rejoice and use, » said Karolis Vaitkevičius, Advisor to the Minister of Economics and Innovation.

Ministries explain that salaries in the public sector are one third lower, which requires additional benefits.

« It is definitely a rewarding measure from the ministry, because it is cheaper than increasing wages, » said K. Vaitkevičius.

The Ministry of Justice costs about 100,000 a year. euros.

« I am one of those heads of the institution, who is for any maximum motivational tools for employees. We understand that having highly qualified staff is the main value of the institution, » said Minister of Justice Rimantas Mockus.

The Ministry of Energy spends at least 60 thousand. Ministry of Transport and Communications – less than 100 thousand.

And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs allocates almost three times more and most of the ministries – almost 300,000.

All ministries providing private health insurance are convinced that it would be difficult to attract good employees without it.

« Obviously, no one is sorry – this is the money of taxpayers, the ministries are unfortunate, but if we ask the ministry’s staff, they are not all the necessary health insurance. There are young people who may rather buy a bike, » said economist Romas Lazutka.

The Ministry of Culture and Agriculture does not yet have additional health insurance, but plans to buy.

« There are such plans. I found it under a collective agreement, means that it is already accepted, but I gave an order that it would not be more, » said Minister of Culture Šarūnas Birutis.

« It should be appreciated – how appropriate it is, how much it costs and worth it in general, » explained the Minister of Agriculture Ignas Hofman.

During the last term, the Ministry of Health provided insurance privilege to employees, but refused to be criticized. The new government of the ministry did not buy additional insurance either.

« We trust the services provided in the public sector. Public sector health services are of high quality, we seek to improve their availability and do not buy our employees at the Ministry of Health, » said Minister of Health Marija Jakubauskienė.

Nor does five other ministries have no additional insurance.

« If we were taking the entire national defense system, it would cost about EUR 20 million. At that time, the decision to provide such insurance for the national defense system, who are not only employees but also soldiers, » said Dainius Ivoškis, Chancellor of the Ministry of National Defense.

The Ministry of Social Security and Labor does not prohibit its employees and seeks to prevent all ministries from next year from next year.

« We must not be disappointed if there is no health insurance – we will definitely find other ways to improve working conditions, » said Inga Ruginienė, Minister of Social Security and Labor.

Minister of Finance Rimantas Šadžius, by submitting the tax package to the Seimas, also set out to cherish private health insurance, arguing that private clinics are already earning too much and the public health sector forgotten.

The Minister of the Environment P. Poderski says that the prohibition is private – this does not mean that it is only used by employees in private clinics.
