Minister of Justice, six hours in Jilava after the death of a prisoner
The Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, visited on Tuesday, for six hours, the Penitentiary and the Bucharest-Jilava Hospital.
According to a statement of the ministry, important aspects regarding the conditions of detention, respect for the fundamental human rights, the deficit of human resources, as well as the assistance for the persons deprived of liberty were analyzed.
‘The Minister of Justice and his team were presented the spaces intended to provide medical assistance to persons deprived of liberty and to those suffering from chronic, contagious diseases, as well as medical offices, high performance equipment, medical analysis laboratories, but also how the medical treatment is granted to the hospitalized persons, in terms of compliance with the fundamental rights. communicated.
Marinescu held ‘extensive’ discussions with the staff within the penitentiary units and with the persons deprived of liberty, the emphasis being on the best identification of the best solutions, to give the outline of action for the modernization and efficiency of the penitentiary system, so that the respect of the fundamental human values is guaranteed.
In addition to the conditions in which the persons held are custody, the spaces intended for cultural activities, creative workshops, Bucharest-Jilava Penitentiary, Sports Bloc, Dining Room, as well as the specially designed spaces in which the detainees can spend time with the family, in accordance with the provisions provided by law were presented.
The Minister of Justice has reaffirmed its firm commitment to continue the investments in the entire system infrastructure, in order to ensure a favorable climate for the social reintegration of the customs in the penitentiary units in Romania.
