Minett tapas in the knobs: The « screw shop » in Differdingen
I have a preference for old industrial buildings that were converted for other purposes. After my last visit to the Kantin in Dudelingen – a former locomotive shed – I was drawn to the « screw shop » in Differdingen this time.
As the name suggests, wood used to be planed here for the Arbed. Right next to it is the « Zilleschapp » and the « Kesselbetrib ». They too were rebuilt and accommodate studios of many creative minds and gastronomic offers.
When we take a seat in the « screw shop », it is still quite empty despite Saturday evening. But slowly it fills up. Even if more people just drink than eat. Next to the long counter is there is a cozy seating area, which the operators also affectionately called « Knutscheck ».

But my companion and I also feel good outside of the smooch. The rather bare brick walls and the steel frame are compensated for by the pleasant lighting conditions. Old photos of workers on the wall and the tools on display are reminiscent of the industrial past over the long counter.
My companion orders a beer to drink – an India Pale Ale. If you like it bitter, you will not be disappointed here. I miss the bitter taste with my Fruity Mocktail with orange, pineapple, maracujas juice, lime juice and strawberry syrup. As the name suggests, it tastes very fruity and a little too sweet, but this is usually the case with non -alcoholic drinks.
As a starter, we share the Italian Kniddelen, a modified variant with tomato sauce, arugula and burrata for 9 euros, which by the way is also available as a main course for 18 euros. The classic variant with bacon and cream sauce is also on the menu.
All in all, we like the modified variant, it is « Mol Eppes Ancht ». The delicious sweet tomato sauce and the bitter arugula complement each other well. Otherwise, there are still many Luxembourgish classics such as Gromperekichelcher, Cereavers, or Iertzebulli for the starters.
As the main course, we both take the vegan burger (18 euros each), not because we both wanted one, but because the vegetarian and vegan options are rather sparse. Otherwise there is actually only the vegan Bulgur Bowl with avocado, cashew nuts, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and salad that differs too little from what we otherwise eat in everyday life. The burger is a good choice, not only because it tastes, but also because it is very filling with its many ingredients-tofu, shiitake mushrooms, jack fruit, chickpeas and arugula. There are also French fries.
Those who are not mostly fed or fully plant will find it here. Because there are enough meat -containing dishes on the menu: from the Cordon Bleu to the Bouchée à la Reine to the Kniddelen (with bacon or with sausage).
And then there is the Pitsa’s own creation, a mixture of flatbread and Pinsa. Guests can choose between an Alsatian variant with bacon and onions, a Luxembourgian with sausage and mustard or an Italian with tomato sauce, rocket and burrata.
Overall, our conclusion is mixed again. The offer is good, but not outstanding. But the price-performance ratio is right, and in the end we have become full. That’s the main thing, isn’t it?
We would still come back, be it to try the Sunday brunch or to visit one of the many events – such as the quiz evening. The location definitely offers enough space and the necessary comfort.
