Military leadership: More than 1,600 earthquake deadlines in Myanmar

After the severe earthquake in Myanmar, the number of confirmed deaths has increased to 1,644 according to media reports. As the local news site « Myanmar Now » reported, citing the military leadership of the Southeast Asian country, more than 3,400 people were injured. 139 people would be missing.

On Friday, the earth in Southeast Asia had violated violently and caused severe destruction. The epicenter of the strongest quake was near Mandalay, the second largest city of Myanmar with 1.6 million inhabitants. The earthquakes were also clearly felt in Thailand, China and Vietnam.

US experts fear more than 10,000 deaths in the region

The US-Erdbiebenwarte USGS fears that a total of more than 10,000 people may have died in Myanmar and the other affected regions. The first deaths were also reported from Thailand, and numerous people are considered missing there. By far the most victims are likely to exist in Myanmar.

A member of the rescue teams told the German Press Agency that the military in Myanmar often interrupted the Internet connection in many places because of the conflicts on there. The situation in the country also remains confusing. Since a military coup in February 2021, the former Burma has already sinked into violence and chaos, various rebel groups are partially fighting against the army.
