The latest case of introducing a military obligation for women is Denmark. As the parliament there, from 1. July, all women who turned on a military obligation, and a recruitment will be given to the end of March, and a recruitment will begin.

According to the information of the Danish Armed Forces, now women make up a quarter of recruits that voluntarily occur in the military. In that country, the military obligation lasts four to twelve months, depending on what recruits have opted during quarterly basic training.

In other countries in the north and West of Europe, the Netherlands has freezing military obligation in 1997. and has not yet been introduced for the General Military Obligations – there are also women since the beginning of 2015, and Sweden, which was revoked in 2010, introduced it again 2018.

In Swedish, the military obligation lasts from six to 15 months, and the fifth of members of the military forces are women. And practically in all positions: the entire military world remained stunned by the outcome of the maritime military exercise of Western military forces in 2005. on the Pacific, where Sweden also participated. On that occasion, the Swedish submarine HMSM Haland « submerged » is the American aircraft Ronald Regan – despite its possible air control, from ships and submarines, which was all accompanied by a carrier. And that Swedish submarine commanded – a woman.

Equality – or just a mere number

In Israel, the military liability and women exist since the establishment of that State in 1949, with women serving two, and men for three years (recently and members of the ultraortodoksing religious group). The experience of the Armed Forces of Israel is also an indicator of a kind of gender discrimination in the armies of the world when it comes to women’s participation in combat actions.

In many countries, women are received in the military if they wanted it, but only relatively, they are almost not only in supply and logistics units. In Israel, however, they also participate in combat units.

However, the largest number of countries where women must in the army in Africa. There, it is not the issue of gender equality, but a mere number of soldiers with whom it is available. In Eritrea, so everyone must in the army for 16 months. The obligation also exists in Chad, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mozambique, Cape Verde and Niger. The obligation for women exists in the shore of ivory, but is not implemented. And in Mozambique, the government has recently announced that the military term with two extends to a period of up to five years.

Most voluntarily

In Asia and Chinese, they must be in the military between 18 and 19, if they have a school preparation and are eligible for certain military titles. However, in most countries where there is a military service and women, it is a voluntary decision. So in the United States where about 200,000 soldiers already have, which is about 14 percent of the total number of members of the armed forces. And there they can serve in combat units since 1993.

Women is a military career possible in practically all other NATO members, just like in South Korea, Bolivia or Japan. Admittedly, Japan is still no military, but « forces for self-defense », but it’s more just a decision on paper from the time after defeat in World War II.

Women in the war in Ukraine

In the fullest war currently shaken by Europe, neither Ukrainian, nor for Russian, there is no military obligation. Despite that, there are more and more women on both sides. According to the information of the Ministry of Defense Ukraine, there are currently 68,000 Ukrainians in the armed forces, 40 percent more than 2021. However, they are still relatively small considering that about 900,000 active soldiers participate in the defense of Ukraine.

And on the other side of the combat line is more and more women – so Russian in uniform. Last October, the first, exclusively female unit called « Night Witch » was founded. She was named after the famous Soviet aviation from World War II, but these « witches » are now managed by unmanned aircraft in Ukraine attacks.
