Miles & More changing-what changes for Luxair passengers?
Once in the business class or even first class, flying on vacation is a distant, unattainable dream for the majority of the passengers. Thanks to frequent flyer programs such as Miles & More, Flying Blue or the British Airways Club, the question of the booking class is no longer necessarily one of your own travel budget. From the programs that were actually launched to bind customers more to an airline, complex systems have now become complex systems, some of which work with other bonus programs and credit card providers. For example, if you collect Payback points in Germany, you can also transfer them to Miles & More.
For a long time no longer only use frequent flyers, but also resourceful points collectors to get the offers to get cheap flight tickets. This has long since become a real science, which almost brings such mileage collectors into booking classes in which the ticket is usually in the four or even five-digit range.

Passengers of the Findel Airline Luxair can collect the Lufthansa program Miles & More. « Miles & more is an integral part of their travel planning for many of our customers, » said the Luxair at the request of the « Luxemburger Word ». « The program is very popular: Many of our passengers regularly use the attractive offers, exclusive status advantages and premiums that the Miles & More program offers. » Depending on the booking class and the selected product, collects. « Already in the cheap booking classes, customers receive 250 miles per return flight, and up to 4,000 miles in Business Class. »
Mile values are flexible
But when redeeming the miles there has been a drastic change in the Miles & More Program for Airlines of the Lufthansa Group in the Miles & More More Program for Airlines. The group now relies on flexible miles, that is, the number of miles that passengers have to pay for a flight, is now based on the airline’s ticket price, while there has been a fixed table so far. Thus, well -lined flights to popular destinations are now also more expensive for mileage collectors. For the time being, these variable miles only apply to Lufthansa, Lufthansa City, Austrian Airlines and Swiss.
With a credit card and loyalty points to the business class
Luxair confirms that the frequent flyer program for its own customers remains unaffected for the time being: “Fixed miles apply to premium flights with Luxair according to the current bonus flight table. This means that our customers can redeem their miles specifically and easily against free Luxair tickets. Since June 3, 2025, Award tickets have already been in the Economy Class from 28,000 miles (previously 35,000. Miles) available, and the popular mileage bargains from 12,000 miles (previously 15,000 miles). » The Award Tickets also includes a task piece in the Economy Class and two pieces of luggage in the business class.
So does that mean taking a deep breath for Luxembourgish passengers? Jein. If you move exclusively in the Luxair route network, you will be spared the changes for the time being and can even look forward to slightly improved conditions. If you move further away, you usually quickly come into contact with the Lufthansa airlines. And if you are targeting the business class, you will certainly flirt with a long-haul flight anyway, because only there the Lie-Flat-Seats is lavishly available, a lot of space and luxury service. In this case, the path for Luxembourg Miles-&-More collectors often leads over the Lufthansa hub Frankfurt or Munich.
For 62,500 Miles-&-More-Mile (plus 131.63 euros) you can fly from Luxembourg to New York. This is a little more expensive than before the change. Photo: Screenshot: Miles-and-More.com
Random tests on the Miles & More website show that the miles for premium flights have increased slightly. From Luxembourg to New York, for example, the mileage-financed business class flight costs 62,500 miles (plus 131.63 euros taxes and fees), the price was previously usually 55,000 miles or in the offer period even 55,000 miles for return flight. However, the offers called « mileage bargains » are not continued for the Lufthansa airlines. The Premium Economy also requires a slightly increased investment with 47,667 miles (plus 288.93 euros in taxes and fees) (previously 40,000).
But why is the much more expensive business class flight for taxes and fees less than half as expensive as the premium economy routing? On closer inspection, it turns out that Miles & More directs the business class offer via Warsaw instead of Frankfurt. The mileage collector is so a few, so to speak, and instead flies with Lot Polish Airlines from Luxembourg via Warsaw to New York, while the premium economy variant with Lufthansa runs over Frankfurt.
When more flights are cheaper
This observation coincides with that of other industry experts. The Page « Meilenoptimieren.com » found, for example, that the business class flight from Munich to Bangkok with 70,530 miles (+ 375.73 euros) was more expensive than the business class flight from Frankfurt via Munich to Bangkok (66,854 miles, 406.30 euros). And if you fly from Prague via Munich to Bangkok, you only have to spend 49,513 miles (+320.43 euros).

The new system of this logic also follows for first-class flights. The highest booking class 135,338 miles (+604.36 euros) costs from Munich to New York, from Oslo via Munich to New York there are only 93,746 miles (+568.80 euros). In general, it can be observed that the miles in business and, above all, First Class have definitely increased on average.
What is hidden behind the Luxair Lounge and how do you get in there?
However, passengers collect their Miles & More miles, it has been worth taking a closer look since the changeover from June 3. The prices are also more unpredictable, depending on how the demand develops.
Other frequent flyer programs?
Miles & More is not an isolated case. Flexible miles can now be found in almost all major programs. Anyone who breaks out from the find with Air France or KLM instead of Luxair/Lufthansa is also confronted with dynamic prices in their « Flying Blue » program. British Airways also uses a dynamic demand for the mileage of the mileage in its frequent flyer program.
If you want to redeem your miles for an intercontinental flight as a founding passenger, you can no longer get around flexible miles, no matter which large airline he ends up. Depending on the booking class, this does not have to be a disadvantage, if you are also flexible at the place of transfer, you can also hope for one or the other sweet spot. On the other hand, if you have solid data and prefer to fly from Luxembourg over the classic hubs, you are faced with a less predictable system with sometimes clear fluctuations.
At the moment, the mileage collectors who are crazy enough to book business class premium flights from Oslo or Prague and thus move from insider tip to insider tip. Against the background of climate change, this seems a bit of reality.
