Mickoski: The Macedonian Army will continue to be present in the region, but will not send troops to Ukraine
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said the United States initiative for a 30-day cessation of hostile action between Ukraine and Russia is an important step towards achieving lasting peace. According to him, the « price » of peace will be the result of negotiations and said it is against reshaping the borders. He added that the Macedonian army would continue to be present in the region, but would not send troops to Ukraine.
In « Only Interview » on Channel 5 Television, the prime minister said tonight that a ceasefire is needed to catalyze a solution that will bring lasting peace.
« I think there is a need for a ceasefire and the negotiations to last as needed to catalyze a solution that will bring lasting peace, » the prime minister said.
Mickoski noted that the price at which this peace will be achieved will be the result of negotiations that will take place at the table and that all that will result in these negotiations will bring a peaceful future for us all.
Regarding the possibility of reshaping the borders, the prime minister said he did not see that he could spill over to the Balkans and that he was against changing borders as a man and as a politician.
« We need to be aware that international law must not take precedents, if they happen once, they can become a practice, » he said.
Regarding the sending of troops to Ukraine, Mickoski said that it is logical for the Macedonian army to logically be present in the region and that we have done what we can do as NATO allies.
-Our interest is within the region and we will take care of our interest. In terms of sending troops, this government does not believe it will make a decision that will have an offensive mission. We will send peacekeepers within the region, send and we are already present, Ukraine does not consider it in the region – said Mickoski.
Regarding the issue of our resolution of the US -proposed resolution at the UN Security Council, which is demanding a quick end to the conflict in Ukraine, the prime minister said the decision is based on what we appreciate that the Trump administration has a clear plan.
« We praise that the Trump administration has a clear plan to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine and we want to follow that example that manifests on the open stage, » the prime minister said.
