The EU accession process must be based on merit and reform, with clear criteria, this is not a service that is arbitrarily given, but a fair recognition for efforts and reforms. My nation made significant sacrifices and reforms, firmly dedicated to our European path. However, we have repeatedly witnessed the change of goals and additional conditions, which are selected selectively, concealing the transparency and equity promised by Europe. This approach does not strengthen Europe, VMRO-DPMNE’s Prime Minister and leader Hristijan Mickoski said in an address at the EPP Congress.
According to him, this EPP gathering emphasizes a common vision – Europe united by principles, strengthened by solidarity and merit. My government, Mickoski says, remains deeply committed to conservative values: family values, responsibility, economic freedom and respect for the rule of law.
– We are from these principles at home and inspire our engagement with Europe. We imagine a common European future, we stand firm on these lasting values. However, honesty forces me to openly address the challenges we face. The European project promises equality, fairness and opportunities – but sometimes, we experience a different reality. Our people, the proud Macedonian citizens I represent, felt the weight of the double standards firsthand. According to him, it is crucial that the leaders of the EPP, both in EU and Member States, become a driving force behind the expansion of the Western Balkans in the European Union.
– Your leadership and proactive engagement will significantly improve the credibility and effectiveness of the enlargement process. To say clearly: the integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union is not just an act of charity – it is a strategic imperative. It provides peace, stability and security not only for our region, but for the whole of Europe. The accession process must remain merit, guided by clear criteria and transparent estimates. This is not an arbitrary service, but a fair recognition for efforts and reforms-says the VMRO-DPMNE leader.
He is firmly convinced that the common collective future lies in a united European family.
– It is our common responsibility to support the integrity of this process, confirming our commitment to equity and equality. The Macedonian people deserve to see that their dedication and victims are truly respected and recognized.
