Mexican Navy Ship strikes the Brooklyn Bridge, two dead and 22 injured
A Mexican Navy’s training boat struck a Brooklyn Bridge in New York yesterday, killing at least two people, New York Mayor Eric Adams said, DPA reports.
Adams said there were 277 people at the time of the accident and 19 were injured. Of these, two remain in a « critical condition » and two « unfortunately died of injuries, » Adams wrote on X.
The Navy said the number of injured was 22, 19 of whom were hospitalized, according to their X -reported announcement by the German agency.
The Navy adds that none of the ship has fallen into the water due to a bridge shot.
The Kuutemok ship is damaged in the crash, the Navy added.
The ship was in New York for a promotional visit and was on its way to Iceland when the collision occurred, police said at a news conference.
Police chief Wilson Aramboles said initial information about the cause of the clash indicated a mechanical problem.
Mayor Adams said the ship « lost its power », which led to a collision with the bridge, DPA said.
Police commissioner Jessica Tish said a full investigation was launched. New York police urged people to avoid the area around the bridge.
Unverified video footage on social networks has shown how the ship collides with the bridge as it passes under it, causing breaking the masts of the ship.
The three -mast ship was lowered in water in 1982 and was about 90 meters long with a mast height of about 48 meters.
