Message from Cotroceni regarding sending military to Ukraine

The presidential adviser for national security, Cristian Diaconescu, said on Friday that, in no context, official or unofficial, interim president Ilie Bolojan has not declared and suggested that our country is willing or intends to send Romanian military to Ukraine, and the information published in the public space is completely untrue.

According to a statement of the Presidential Administration, the presidential counselor makes these details in the context of the appearance in the public space, especially on some social networks, of some ‘completely untrue’ information, wrongly attributed to statements of the interim president Ilie Bolojan regarding a possible reference of Romanian military to Ukraine.

‘In no context, official or unofficial, the interim president of Romania, Ilie Bolojan, did not declare and suggested that our country is willing or intends to send Romanian military to Ukraine. On the contrary, his public statements constantly emphasized the continuation of Romania’s multidimensional support for Kiev, without including the prospect of trooping in the neighboring country in conflict. This is in accordance with the national position established following the consultations with the representatives of the political parties, in the preparation of the participation in the European Council on March 20, 2025, and with the decision adopted during the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Country of March 28, 2025 ‘, stressed Cristian Diaconescu.

He completed that, according to the national legal framework, a possible decision regarding the dislocation of Romanian military in a conflict area must be adopted by the Supreme Council of Defense of the country and subject to the approval of the Parliament.

« Therefore, such a measure cannot be taken unilaterally by the President of Romania, without prior public communication, clear and unequivocal, » explained the presidential counselor.

At the same time, the coordinator of the Chancellery of the Interim President of Romania urges citizens and media representatives to consult the official sources and to avoid dissemination or amplification of unverified information and, implicitly, potentially false.
