Meridian will lift sails to the summer and become a festive concert scene
The tradition of spreading Meridian sails every year has been in existence since 2014, when this historic sailboat has been rescued from decay, restored and re -open to the public.
« It is fun that more than a decade ago, the initiative we started and became a symbol of the opening of the entire Klaipeda summer season, » said Aloyzas Kuzmarskis, a businessman who initiated the reconstruction of Meridian and continued to conserve its preservation, and the head of the Meridian, a symbol of Klaipeda maritime.

In total, Meridian has 14 sails with a total area of more than 600 square meters. It has already become commonplace that the so -called straight sails, which are spread on the front stem, the foci, publish a message that is important to the city of Klaipeda every year. This time, in cooperation with Klaipeda City Municipality, the front sails of the Meridiano will be dedicated to the year of the poet Simon Dach in Klaipeda and will be depicted on one of the symbols of the city – Simon Dach’s Tarava Anikė.

Continuing in 1948 The history of the Meridian, as a educational ship of the then Klaipeda Maritime School in Finland, will be raised again by students from the Lithuanian Maritime Academy, and will be attended by members of the Sea Captains Association, some of which are actually swimming under the Meridian sails.

This year’s sail lifting ceremony will feature an extremely rich artistic, entertainment program organized by the Cultural Center Fishermen’s Palace. As the sails rises, the unofficial anthem of Klaipeda – the song « The present » (« My City ») will be performed traditionally, which will be performed this time by its music author Gintautas Lititinskas. And the Meridian sails will become the main musical scene of that evening, where the band Saulės Kliošas and the performer Dainotas Varnas will give a concert.

Concerts, entertainment and events will last all weekend, as 16-18. The great opening of the summer season in Klaipeda will be held in the summer of 2025, where Klaipeda residents and guests of the city will be waiting for the Marine Culture Awards « Albatros », Street Music Day, the second « fish day », ship parade, museum night and meaningful « Hope Running » events.
