Mercs does not get enough votes in the first vote for the German Chancellor / Day

In the first round, Mercam had to get an absolute majority of the 630 Bundestag votes, or at least 316 votes, but only 310 voted for him.

307 Members voted against, three abstentions, one newsletter was invalid, but nine deputies had not arrived at the meeting.

There are still two voting rounds, and in the third and final rounds, the Chancellor will suffice with a simple majority.

Voting was considered a formality because Mercca Conservatives (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democrats (SPD) in the Bundestag are 328 seats.

After announcing the results in the Bundestag, leading politicians were obviously shocked, and many of them left the meeting room without comment.

It is not clear at the moment whether the second vote will take place on Tuesday. Mercs has gathered allies to plan what to do.

There have been assumptions that Mercs were unable to secure a majority in the secret vote, but the SPD sources confirmed to the DPA news agency that its legislators had unanimously supported Mercu.

Conservative leader critics did not hide the joy of this outcome, and Jans Van aken, co -chairman of the left -wing radical party « Die Linke » (left « ) said Mercam was unable to unite but only broken ».

Alice Veidele, the leader of the Eurosceptic Party « Alternative to Germany » (AfD), said the result shows the coalition’s « weak foundation » and requested new elections.

The new government would have to take the oath to the Mercca on Tuesday, but for the time being, the former head of government, Olaf Sholz, remains as Chancellor’s formal farewell ceremony on Monday night.

It has already been reported that CDU/CSU and SPD signed a coalition agreement on Monday.
