Mercedes employs more than 6,000 people in Tuscaloosa and mainly produces the large SUV models GLS and GLE as well as their electrical variants. Many of these cars are also exported. Last year, around 260,000 cars ran off the assembly line in the plant. Mercedes sold a total of almost 325,000 cars on the important US market. Because of the current import duties of US President Donald Trump, Mercedes is almost half of the planned operational profit in the fire at Mercedes this year, as the group announced the day before.
