MEPs continue the meeting, negotiating on the government amendment of the Constitution
Commissioner for children Jozef Mikloško supports the amendment to the Constitutionhe helps to protect children.
This stems from an open letter to the Commissioner who addressed politicians and political parties to the amendment of the Constitution.
In this context, the Commissioner stated that the proposals of constitutional changes should not be the subject of political scraps, but a serious subject of social debate in which the center of children will be. In particular, it notes those points that relate to children and the environment in which they will grow up.
Mikloško, first of all, welcomes the constitutional anchoring of the principle, according to which the child is to grow up in the family environment and possible substitute care should be carried out as much as possible in the marriage environment. The constitutional anchoring of marriage as the most appropriate environment for the adoption of children is not considered by Mikloško to be discrimination, but the expression of an effort, which is based on the principle of the best interest of the child.
« Children are not an object of adult desire, but they are entities of rights whose well -being is to be in the center of attention. If a child has lost his family, it is the duty of the company to find another family to ensure a harmonious environment, » the Commissioner explained.
Furthermore, he justified that the constitutional anchoring of marriage as the most suitable environment for the adoption of children is a reflection of the principle that the child will look for a substitute family, not that adults choose a child.
« Children are not the goods that someone chooses from the catalog to fulfill their individual desires, » Mikloško appeals.
It also supports the constitutional prohibition of surrogate motherhood. According to the Commissioner, substitute motherhood makes the child’s opinion a commodity in which it is subject to a transaction.
« Trading with children is in fundamental conflict with the principle that the child is a rights holder and not a goods. He has the right to be taken into a loving family, not to be the result of a commercial treaty.
He also claims that strengthening parents’ rights and constitutional protection of their position will contribute to greater stability in families and better fulfillment of the child’s interest. It therefore also supports the effort to strengthen the authority of parents in education.
« The right of parents to raise their children in accordance with his beliefs is the basic element of a free society. I also welcome the constitutional anchoring of equality of remuneration of men and women. The same assessment of parents will create a stronger economic background of the family and contribute to its stability, » concluded Mikloško. (TASR)
