Media: New search in Portugal in the Maddie case
A good 18 years after the disappearance of the then three -year -old Madeleine McCann in south of Portugal, the police are to start a new search. The search had been applied for by the German authorities and will begin on Tuesday at Praia da Luz in the south of Portugal, reported, among other things, the TV broadcaster CNN Portugal and Sic Noticias, citing investigators. The « Bild » newspaper also reported. First of all, there was no confirmation from the responsible authorities.
The « Sun » quoted a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police (MPS) in Great Britain: They would know about the searches of the BKA (Federal Police) in Portugal as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. However, the MPS is « not present in the search, we will support our international colleagues if necessary. »
According to CNN Portugal, a house should also be searched for the new search, in which the German suspect, who has been convicted several times, is said to have lived in Portugal in the early 2000s.
On May 3, 2007, Madeleine disappeared from a holiday complex in the small and tranquil Algarve Baden Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007. The investigators suspect that it has been kidnapped and murdered. However, a body was never found. The last known larger search in this case took place around two years ago, at the end of May 2023. It ended – like previous searches.
The 48 -year -old Christian B. is currently in prison in Germany because of the rape of a 72 -year -old American in Praia da Luz – the place where Madeleine disappeared. So far, however, there is no charge against him in the Madeleine McCann case and the presumption of innocence applies. According to the current status, he is a free man at the latest in early 2026. In a process of three rapes and two cases of sexual child abuse, he was acquitted in October. However, the judgment is not yet final.
