Measuring power between freedom and the President of the Republic continues

The latest candidate of the President of the Republic Natasha Pirc Musar For Governor of the Bank of Slovenia Simon Savšekthe head of the European Investment Bank Representation in Slovenia, presented himself to coalition parliamentary groups.

There is no official decision whether they will support him, as they are expected to consult in parliamentary groups. But it seems increasingly that for months, they could be left without a governor, even if his presentation was evaluated by the interlocutors as good.

After freedom’s movement, they had already indicated that they, too, – in the SD and Levica, had been said before – ready to accept the decision of the President of the Republic not to propose to this post Sasha Jazbec, State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, however, the latest comments coming from the largest coalition parliamentary party no longer confirm this.

Especially Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič He is supposed to insist on choosing Jazbec. Several interlocutors confirmed this. Why such insistence is not entirely clear, but Boštjančič seems to be at the helm of the Bank of Slovenia from his circle. The matter, however, has now grown into purely measurement of power between movement freedom and President of the Republic.

The party’s views have not changed the chairman of the president, so that if it does not go otherwise, she will wait by finding the governor until the next convening of the National Assembly. This would mean that the city of the governor will be vacated for at least a bad year and together for more than a year as Boštjan Vaslet The term of office has already expired on January 8, and since then Primož Dolenc has been run by the Bank of Slovenia as a deputy governor.

He is also one of those who did not receive a pre -guaranteed support in the coalition to occupy the governor’s position – in addition to the director of the Department of Strategy, Sustainable Development and Research at SID Bank Damijan Kozamernik, Former Representative of Slovenia at the World Bank in Washington Ksenija Senka Maver and the former Prime Minister Tone ropwho is the only one to vote about.

Savšek also presents himself to the opposition, but so far it has not been in favor of participating in the search or appointment of the Ombudsman, with two -thirds support for election.

What a decision regarding the candidate was made by MPs, otherwise they would be officially announced next week, when the President of the Republic will probably have to think again that « he can continue the proceedings with the future convening of the National Assembly » or the (in) acceptability of the Jazbec for a governor.
