Measles mostly acute contagious disease in March, reported 309 cases

During the month of March, the most commonly registered acute disease is chickenpox with a total of 309 reported persons. Compared to the previous month of February, a decrease in the number of chickenpox reported by 15.6 percent, while compared to March 2024, a decrease of 62.5 percent was registered, according to the latest report of the Institute of Public Health (IPH).

-During March 2025, in the Republic of Northern Macedonia, a total of 608 patients from acute infectious diseases-without Kovid-19, influenza, tuberculosis, AIDS, AFP and chronic carriage of hepatitis B and C and HIV, with a total incidence of 33.1 per 100,000 inhabitants. During the month of March, the total number of cases decreased by 18.5 percent compared to the previous month of February 2025. Compared to March 2024, it decreased by 57.5 percent, as well as the arithmetic environment for the period 2015-2024, by 44.2 percent – the Institute report explains.

In terms of the division of acute infectious group diseases in March, the largest number belongs to cracks. Of these, most of them and incidents have applied for chickenpox. This group has been reported, 19 cases of infectious mononucleosis, eight cases of Scarlatina, three cases of pneumococcal infections, after one case of cough, legionary disease and meningococcal disease.

In March, 195 cases of intestinal diseases have been reported. Of these, the largest number and incidence of enterocolites applied. 10 cases of salmonellers have been reported, eight cases of bacterial alimony infections and intoxication and one case of campylobacteriosis.

In the group of other acute infectious diseases, 58 cases were registered in March. Of these, 54 are scabies, three cases of bacterial meningitis and one viral meningoencephalitis.

In the group of sexually and blood -transmitted infections – without HIV/AIDS, 11 cases have been registered – four cases of viral hepatitis B, three cases of syphilis, two cases of chlamydia infection and one case of hepatitis C and gonorrhea.

In the zoonos group, two cases were registered in March, after one case of brucellosis and echinococcosis.

During March, three cases have been confirmed to HIV and one AIDS case, all of the male, belonging to the age group of 20 to 39 years. One death of AIDS has been registered.

– In terms of vaccination – preventable diseases, in March, eight cases were registered with an incidence of 0.4/100,000 inhabitants. Four cases of viral hepatitis B have been registered, which, according to age, are not subject to immunization in accordance with the mandatory immunization of the Republic of Northern Macedonia and are not vaccinated against these diseases. The diagnosis is confirmed by laboratory. Three cases of pneumococcal infections have been reported, two of them are adults – belonging to the age group 50 to 65 years, and one person is an eight -year -old child. The three cases are diagnosed with pneumococcal meningitis. None of the patients has been vaccinated with a pneumococcal infection vaccine. In the group of vaccinated -transverse diseases, one case of cough has been reported -the IPH report said.

Four cases of Kovid-19 were recorded in the country during March. Two cases were from Skopje and one from Ohrid and Tetovo.
