Poprad. Mayor’s wife Anton Danko (independent) Jaroslav Danko takes pictures for youth hockey club Poprad. He receives approximately 800 euros per month.

Marketing services provides for the association Hockey the club Sports Police Club Poprad. It belongs to the Slovak Ice Hockey Association. It has been operating as a non -profit organization since 2003. In 2023 he reached the revenue Million euros, profit of 37 thousand euros.

Considering to increase his wife’s remuneration

Danko has been working in the club since 2019 as Chairman of the Board of Directors. According to the club’s statutes, the composition of the Board of Directors is designated and one of several members is the statutory representative of the city of Poprad. At the same time, the Board of Directors elects the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Danko says that this function is voluntary and does not receive any reward for this work. He explains that his wife is devoted to creating videos, graphics, content of the club’s website and doing all marketing activities.

Since no one else was willing to do this job for the wage, he is glad that he even spoke to his wife. « Believe me, spending weekend in winter in the winter at the ice rink and then cut videos, edit photos or write lyrics is not easy at all, at the same time time -consuming and, unfortunately, unpaid enough. »

He added that that is why he is considering increasing the remuneration for his wife, « if we continue to be able to get sponsorship contributions in sufficient volume. »

Subsidy from the city

The club is financed by the Slovak Ice Hockey Association, the Ministry of the Interior and, in addition to the sponsorship money or contributions of his parents, it is subsidized by the City of Poprad. From 2018 to 2023, the club paid approximately EUR 943,000. The contribution from the city coffers grew, in 2018 it was 59 thousand euros, in 2023 already 392 thousand euros.

« This money is by no means invested in the monthly contribution of Mrs. Jaroslava Danko’s salary, » he says from the club.

They explain that money from the city goes to monthly contributions, coaches’ salaries, hockey equipment, bus transport for youth matches or to the purchase of the purchase sportswear.

The subsidy from the city has two purposes, one is the rental of the winter stadium and training hall and the other is for the activities of the youth club.

For 2025, the city approved a subsidy of EUR 291,000. The material, travel, meals, accommodation or remuneration of coaches, instructors and trainers should go 100,000 euros. The rent of the hall for this year will be a subsidy of EUR 191,000 from the city.

Mayor: It is not a conflict of interest

The mayor also argues that the results of his wife’s work can be verified. « Since she started to do for our club, the number of followers of our site has increased several times, » he argues.
