Summer means sun, barbecue – and suddenly a whole colony of ants marching purposefully across the kitchen table.

And before you have flashed, the drawer with sugar is invaded.

But the solution does not have to be toxic or expensive. It can actually be found on the spice shelf.

Cinnamon – yes, the same brown powder you sprinkle on the rice crop – can, according to several house councils, prove to be an effective scare campaign against the uninvited six -legged guests.

It sounds like a joke, but several have successfully used cinnamon as a natural detergent. Ants have an extremely well -developed sense of smell that they use to communicate and find their way. When cinnamon is sprinkled along door frames, window frames or cracks in the terrace, their scent tracks are disturbed – and that can cause the whole colony to turn around.

The method requires neither special products nor green fingers. Just take some of the cinnamon you already have standing in the kitchen and sprinkle it targeted where the ants usually show up. It can be along the base, behind the trash, at the patio door or in the corner of the terrace.

Scent of Christmas – deterrence in the summer

In addition to being ant enemy, cinnamon also has the benefit of smelling heavenly – as opposed to many chemical pesticides that smell as if someone has tried to eradicate life on the whole planet. Cinnamon is both children’s and animal-friendly and does not color tile or woodwork.

The effect may vary depending on the terrain and ant type, but it is easy and quick to experiment with. And if it doesn’t keep the ants away, then your home smells at least like a cookie factory.

So the next time the ants are marching out, you can just open your spice loss rather than the toolbox – and let the cinnamon do the work.
