May fees: adult content surpassed children
The collections of film distributions and the attendance of cinema halls in May are significantly ahead of last year: the total box office reached 2.2 billion rubles. Against 1.8 billion rubles. At the same time, from among the “spring” releases, cross the mark of 1 billion rubles. This time, only one “Kraken” was obtained fees.
“Kommersant” got acquainted with the data of a unified automated information system (EAIS) of the Film Fund for May. From them it follows that the total box office of films during this time amounted to 2.2 billion rubles. With a vision of 7.3 million spectators. The average ticket price varied from 373.2 to 428.5 rubles. A year earlier, total fees in May were at the level of 1.8 billion rubles, then 6.4 million people visited sessions. The average ticket price for the period was from 333.1 to 356.3 rubles.
A separate trend of this May is the prevalence of a repertoire for an adult audience over children’s and family content.
So, the TOP-3 at that time included the projects “The Lists were not listed” (at the box office from May 1; the fees for the period-623.8 million rubles), Kraken from the TRITE studio (the beginning of the rental from April 17; 564.9 million rubles) and the continuation of the Batya franchise (April 3; 214 million rubles). Content for children was presented in the form of the film “Treasures of the Dwarves” (also started on May 1; 161.9 million rubles).
Last year, in the top three, two films were intended for a family audience. We are talking about “a hundred years ahead” (the beginning of the rental – April 18, 2024; 670.8 million rubles) and “Major Thunder: Game” (May 23; 252.4 million rubles). For the senior audience, the release of the “Ministry of Non -Emergency Cases” (May 13; 311 million rubles) was presented. Next, TOP-5 took children’s content. These are projects “Flying Ship” (March 21; 96.7 million rubles) and “Fire fox” (May 18; 65.2 million rubles).
At the same time, unlike last year, according to the results of May, the threshold of 1 billion rubles. The fees overcame only one project – Kraken. A year earlier there were two such releases – “A hundred years ahead” and “Flying Ship”.
In general, the combined box office of Russian rental over the past year reached 45 billion rubles, which is 15% higher than 2023, follows from the data of the Cinema Foundation. The number of tickets sold, on the contrary, decreased: from 126.1 million in 2023 to 123.7 million. The total fees of films on the first half of the May holidays reached 833.7 million rubles. Against 681.2 million rubles. a year earlier (See “Kommersant” from May 7). At the same time, the attendance, albeit slightly, was reduced: from 2.2 million to 2.1 million people.
Maxim Sharp, the editor-in-chief editor of the Film Dresser Bulletin in May with the presence of two full-fledged expanded weekends in the month: “He was able to gain his box office,“ was not listed on the lists ”, despite the fact that this is a genre that does not always live up to expectations,” despite the growth of his expectations, is the growth of the growth of the total box office. According to him, the “shock” was precisely the festive beginning of the month, the instability of the weather also affected. “By the end of May, as we see in decreasing revenue, the situation is already less rainbow,” said Mr. Ostry.
The editor -in -chief of the Cinemaplex industry publication Rifat Fazlyev believes that this May should be compared with May 2023, since in the spring of 2024 there was a terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall, which was affected by movie theaters.
Then the box office exceeded the data of even this year, despite the lower rates of the average ticket price, he said. According to the EAIS, the total project fees for that period reached 2.3 billion rubles, attendance – 7.7 million spectators, the average price ranged from 292.6 to 320 rubles. In 2024, the fees were reduced primarily by the decision of Russian cinemas to abandon the “parallel rental” from April 18 to May 12, he recalls (See “Kommersant” dated May 14, 2024).
In parallel last year, in fact (except for the “dugout”) there were no films in the May box office on military themes, Rifat Fazlyev points out. Now, in addition to “on the lists”, the “blood group” release also worked well, he adds.
