May closes with eight victims more than the same month of 2024 | Spain

A total of 432 people have lost their lives on the road since January 1, as reported on Monday The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT). During last May, 99 deaths were recorded, which is eight more than in the same month of 2024. Traffic stressed that accidents have increased with multiple fatalities. In two of them, three people lost their lives in each case and in another there were four deaths. The latter occurred on May 2 at the height of kilometer 472 of the N-630 road, in the municipality of Plasencia (Cáceres), in the northern ring -valuation of the capital of Jerte. It was a frontal clash between a Dacia vehicle and a Porsche. The four deceased – a couple, the mother of the man and the woman’s brother – traveled in the first, and the least serious injured is the driver of the second car, a businessman of the fruit transport of the Jerte.

May’s balance showed that they died 22 people on highways and highways (one less than in the same month of 2024) and 77 on conventional roads – those that have only one lane -, which is nine more than in May last year. The road outings was the cause with the greatest mortality on the roads last month, with 57 deaths. In May 2024 there were 34 citizens who died for this cause. At the other point in the table, the dead descend by frontal collision (22) and rear and multiple collision (3).

According to the DGT data, 19 of the deceased did not use security systems: 15 tourism users, two trucks and one of vans did not wear the seat belt, while A motorist was not wearing the regulatory helmet.

By autonomous communities, Andalusia is the region with the highest number of deaths in May, with 27 people killed and the one that most increases its road accidents – new dead more than in the same of 2024. On the contrary, Catalonia reflects the greatest reduction, with seven deaths, seven less than in the same month as in May 2024.

Last weekend

From 15.00 on Friday, May 30 until midnight on Sunday, June 1, six people in five fatal accidents have lost their lives. Five died on conventional roads and one on highway.

Of the six deceased, one was a motorist and the other five moved in tourism. The five mortal sinister were produced by way out of the DGT. They occurred in Calella (Barcelona), Espinosa de los Monteros (Burgos); Hinojal (Cáceres), A Baña (A Coruña) and Zalamea la Real (Huelva).
