May 1st, workers who are not found (and wages that remain low)
Unioncamere calculated that 456,000 hires were scheduled in March but in 48% of cases companies struggle to find candidates with the required profile
Last March Italian companies planned to take 456,000 people but in 48.2% of cases they did not find (or have found with difficulty) candidates with the professionalism required. AND one of the paradoxes that the world of work is experiencing which today celebrates May 1st. A theme – that of the lack of manpower – which is intertwined with another Italian emergency, that of having more wages lower than many other European countries. A theme, the latter also called by President Sergio Mattarella on the eve of the workers’ party.
The data on the unobtainable workers emerges from Excelsior Ge4stito system bulletin from Unioncamere and the Ministry of Labor. The 456,000 hires scheduled in May are growing by 1.9% compared to the same period last year. A figure driven a lot by tourism, growing by 14% compared to 2024 but not of the manufacturing whose offer is indeed in contraction of 4.2%.
48.2% of places that are covered with the so -called « MISMATCH » between demand and demand of jobs. According to Unioncamere among the most sought after figures there are engineers (for them the index rises to 63.1%), Analysts and specialists in design (56.2) and technicians for the management of production processes (68.2). An investigation by Confindustria, for its part, calculated that this shortage of qualified workers caused damage (in terms of failure to grow) equal to 44 billion euros.
It should be added that of the 456,000 hires envisaged, Over half (56%) consisted of fixed -term contracts. And this introduces the other aspect of the problem, i.e. precariousness e The low salary guaranteed by many uses. EUROSTAT, the REPEA Union Statistics Center has certified that Salari in Italy are lighter than the EU media. So if a Dutch worker pits 36,500 euros net the year (given parameter to purchasing power), An Italian one stops at 24,000 against a continental average of 27,500. Italy is overcome in this ranking by the main EU economies (Germany, France) and also from Spain.
